View Full Version : 3 different types of front bags?

Hey all, I was surfing Fordpartsnetwork and came across something kinda strange.
1993-1995 Marks have front bag part# AVS10 and AVS 11 (left and right)
1996 has AVS14 and AVS15
1997-98 has AVS16 and AVS17
Out of this bunch, can we figure out which has the highest spring rate and/or shock dampening? I know the GEN IIs are pretty soft, so I guess it boils down what's up with those 1996 only springs.
Thanks!

Dunno. My '98 rides a lot "harsher" than the '96 for some reason. Both have had the front bags replaced, the '96 because they were leaking and the '98 on Ford warranty due to noise.
Speaking of rides.... my '98 developed a dronning type sound which I traced to the pasenger side front hub bearing.
I tore into it yesterday and decided that as long as I had the car up in the air, might as well do the other side too, and since I had the right wheel off, do the silencer removal (air box had been drilled already) and the fuel filter.
The rear mounting tab of the silencer is used to support a connector, and after removing the air box, I wasn't happy with just letting this connector dangle, so I cut off the tab from the box and re-attached it to the body.
You guys may want to add that to the Tech notes.
Anyway, total cost for both hubs, new retaining nuts and caps (per FORD manual, replace the nuts and caps when replacing the hubs) came to around $225, not including 3 hrs of my time <g>
Smooth running again!

You mean where I mentioned, "With the liner gone, you will see a wiring harness attached to the silencer. This harness can be disconnected with a forked-tool, and can be reinstalled up in the body after the silencer is removed." ??? tongue.gif

There is a little hole in the sheetmetal above the silencer where you can press white thread on the wire and lock it in place. Quick and easy. smile.gif

Yeah, that's the one.... Re-using the tab seemed to work best for me, so I just cut it off.
