suspension problem

I've had my mark for about six months, but just this week i noticed that my car is lop-sided. It seems that the LR side doesnt go up when the compressor kicks in. Now, I did have my sound system professionally installed this week. Could the problem have been caused by an unplugged sensor or something? But again, its only the LR side that doesnt go up. Yet, i dont have an AS warning or malfunction light. HELP!? :confused:

It could be solenoid valve connection, since the rear only has one ride height sensor. Start car from outside, thru open window with both doors closed, then step quickly to the rear and listen for a solenoid click at the LR wheel well after the compressor starts. No click means that air isn't being allowed into that air spring. If it DOES click and that corner still doesn't come up, it's most likely an air leak at the dryer or the solenoid. Check for leaks with a soapy water spray.

but what if the solenoid doesn't click? is it as simple as plugging in a connector or replacing the solenoid?

In that case, it may be the solenoid, or connector, or a connector wire that's been cut or burned thru. It may even be (unlikely) the ride controller. Good Luck.

The Mark VIII only has one rear height sensor? I thought it would have two because of the IRS. :confused:

IRS is irrelevant to load leveling design, the rear being held level by (near) equalized pressure in the rear air springs, AND the rear sway bar.
There actually ARE two sensors back there, but only one is for ride height input; the other is for determining body roll and is used as input for the ABS.

That's very interesting. I thought the Mark VIII would have a more accurate system, but I guess it's mostly a waste to have two height sensors. Thanks for the info!
