Long time no post...! got my 3.73 trac lok, it makes a noticable difference, posi-burnouts are great, it really gets the RPM's up there and feels like i can ride a burnout forever. Most cost-efficient mod i have done. ill post burnout pics soon

So you went from the 3.27 to 3.73, was the 3.27 a Trac-Loc or conventional?

Time to go hunt down that pesky Mark VIII in your neighborhood. ;)

from the factory my car had a 3.27 open rear end... Now it has a 3.73 trac lok..

Oh yeah! I can now hang and pull away from my brothers bone stock 93 VIII with 75K on it..

I am considering the 3.73 setup for one of my LSC's and would be interested in some gas mileage figures from the Tripmeter if possible. On flat ground, a few readings at say 40-70 mph would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I can give you some gas mileage figures...Before with the 3.27's I was getting 16 per then with the swap of the 3.73's I figure I'd be getting worse...Not so. And this was recently tuned up. Now, with the 3.73's I get about 20-22 mixed cty/hwy driving. I couldn't believe it so I checked it twice and got the same result.

Amazing! My 3.08 BB models get the 20-22 mixed (no big city traffic) and my LSC's w/3.27 usually 18-20 mixed. I have had only one LSC that got lower mileage @15-18 mixed driving. I have had about 15 Mark VII's, 88-92 in the last 8 years.

Recently my stock rear started making noise, so today I put it up on the lift to do some checking.

Seems the pinion bearing is what is making all of the noise. There are some fine metal flakes in the gear oil.

I'll be ordering the bearing overhaul kit and would like to change to 3.73 gears while I have the rear apart. I've already made arrangements for someone that knows what they are doing to set the rear up.

What needs to be done to change the speedo calibration? I've heard a white 23-tooth gear needs to be changed in the trans, and I've heard a white gear needs to be used.

Thanks
