View Full Version : mustang gt fuel injectors

Don't know if this a dumb question or not, but are the fuel injectors out of an 89 mustang gt the same as the ones in my 88 lsc? I noticed the mustang's were black and the ones from my lincoln were silver. I have heard something about a design 1 and 2 fuel injector and didn't know if that is what these are.

They normally are the same size in flow rating.
The engines are the same. Not sure about the color indications. Normally they are a yellow/ orange color.
Appears that DENSO replacements are black in color.

What Bluegrass said. Stock they're both 19lbs injectors and typically a browish/orange colored top. Replacement injectors... anyone's guess.

yup. Unless the Mustang isn't stock and has different injectors for whatever reason. The bodies on some are painted black. I have a set from a 92 Towncar that have black bodies and tan/orange tops. If its just the body thats a different color, you can happily ignore it. Its the top thats telling.

i just put in a set of blue top injectors.....(24 lbs) and it runs awsome! tongue.gif I still have 5 left over if any one is interested?

You have 24 lb injectors in an otherwise stock engine? why?

Not to mention with a stock, untuned computer... in a speed density system?

It's possible. The SD EEC will still trim 24lb injectors but nothing bigger.
Starting may be a bit rich but as long as it runs to satisfaction, that's all that counts.
They are being operated at the 19 lb pulewidth signals but still meter more fuel in WOT operation otherwise the OX sensors cuts the fuel back same as with the originals, in cruise.
The other difference is they are shifted to a lower part of there operating range.
Normally the operation is about 10% to 90% range. With larger metering they will be operated closer to shut off (less than 10%) and lower from there 90% rating.
Later on you may notice some loss of WOT performance because the EEC may retrim the WOT tables a little leaner.
Nothing is cast in stone though.
