If you have time to let it dry off carb cleaner is ok just don't get anything on your MAF meter...even a garden hose is ok as long as the filter is dry when you are done. even just water will f/u a MAF meter

Just be sure it is a cleanable one. I had a friend who bought a cheapy one and tried to clean it out with water, well it was a paper one and the water from the hose just tore it all to pieces. I got a good laugh out of it anyway. He was quite pissed. :D

Whoever msde it should have a cleaning kit with the right soap and oil to get it good as new. Are you sure it needs cleaning? You don't have to touch a K and N for at least 50k miles. It filters better dirty. K and N's instructions are to soap, reverse flush with tap water under sink, air dry, and then re-oil. You should not blow dry with heat or compressed air, Carb cleaner seems really strong. laundry detergent should be all you need.
