I have a rear end from a 85 mustang. I called a shop to find out about having it put in and I was told that I need to count the splines on the axels. The problem is that I dont want to take my rear end apart to find out. I'm not worried about taking the mustang rear end apart but I cant afford to take my m7 apart and it not work out. So if anyone knows how many splines is on the rear axels in a 3.27 rear end in a 1990 m7 please let me know.

28 splines I believe. The Mustang axle will be shorter if you don't already know.

28 should be correct.
The Mustang rear axles are shorter
like he says cuz they don't have the
outboard ABS signal wheel just beyond
the end of the housing - about 3/4"
per side if I remember right.

Yep, both have 28-spline axles, and the Mustang's axles are indeed much shorter than the VII's. Also, in '85 the Mustang had a 7.5" rear end. Your VII should have the 8.8". The Mustang didn't get the 8.8" until '86.

I know the axels are shorter. I was just going to use the gears out of the rear end. would the 8.8 rear end axels have a different spline count?
