Ok I am taking my "new SE" to the shop tommorow for new mufflers. My choice is Flowmasters or magnaflow (or is it dynamax??- damm memory is the second thing to go). from what I've read here - I am leaning away from the the flowmasters - does everyone kinda agree??

Do you want loud, deep, quiet at cruise/loud at WOT, or...?
Personally, Dynomax Super Turbo's or their knockoffs are decent, and great for the money ($15/each from Summit). Quiet at idle and cruise, loud at WOT. If you want to spend $, then Magnaflow is the only way to go. The quiet ones, not the Magnapax or race mufflers. Flowmaster 50-series (3-shamber) and big block mufflers aren't too bad. Louder than the turbo mufflers in all respects, but can still hold a conversation in the car without yelling, and they're deeper/throatier, but are in the same price range as the Magnaflow's. The 40-series are just loud, and tend to have a 'tinny' resonance with the stock 5.0L, but they do bark.
There's also the Dynomax UltraFlo mufflers, the ovals and not the Bullets, which are a little louder than the turbo mufflers at idle and cruise, but become rip-snorting loud at WOT.
Hope that helps.

The Super Turbos are also high flowing. The Flowmasters didn't do well in flow tests. They were just loud. The Super Turbos are a nice match overall to the car.

Flowmasters suck - I had them. Just slapped on a pair of Dynomax Ultra Flows and the car instantly pulled better from 4000rpm on up.
I'd say between Flows and Magnaflow, definitely Magnaflow...they sound incredible with an X-pipe

Yes, I want something that you can hear and respect at idle, but does not scream at you going down the interstate at 70.
Thanks,

Here's a video from the Southern Super Heavyweight Shootout back in the beginning of November down in GA. In the beginning and at like, 1:13 of the clip you can hear what my car sounds like, to give you an idea...

Just wanted to let you guys know - I got the magnaflows- and they sound about perfect to me.
I am happy with them. I guess now to try and remove the intake "bottle" and add a K+N. Is it really necessary to remove the tire? I thought I read some where here where the bottle can be squeeked out without removeing the tire/wheel?

Shawn

Jack the car up a tad, turn the wheels to the left and take out some screws and you're done.

What he said. Or jack the car up after loosening wheel lugs, remove lugs, remove wheel, remove wheel liner, remove air silencer, put it all back together. :D
It really isn't that tough, and gives you the chance to not only see the cool sound deadener that Lincoln put in there, but to drop out the pounds of crap that's trapped up in there. :D
