Hey guys,
I've just been offreed a set of used P&P'd GT-40 heads. What would be a fair price to ask for? $300? $350? The job has been professionally done by a local shop. This friend is now switching to the new aluminum twisted wedges. Also I saw on eBay that according to the text a plain GT-40 is better than the GT-40P. IS it true and why?
Thanks a lot!

Larry Zajkowsi here has those on the motor we put in his car over the weekend. The only reason I'd see they are "better" than the "P" heads, is that you won't need "P"-specific headers to clear the spark plugs.
I'd go for them. Nice upgrade from stock. See if you can get 'em for $300. Or check corral.net, stangnet.com to see what others are looking to get for theirs.

That's right about the P's being
better than regular 40's.
P's have a slightly diff shape comb
chamber, and the plug is farther
toward the center of the chamber,
all of which helps reduce detonation.
I think they may flow just a tad
better, not sure, but the main thing
is more efficient combustion and
detonation resistance.

Thanks guys,
I'll be making an offer soon. So according to macx, the -P is a bit better, but our stock headers will not fit anymore if the -P's are installed?

Ported GT-40s are probably better than any stock GT-40P head. I'd look for $300-400 for those heads, you can get low mile GT-40s for $200-250.

mine have upgraded springs, 3 angle valve job, oversized ss valves, and full p&p. i only paid $500 for mine, which included the shipping. i did notice something wierd w/ my heads though. the inside bolt on the alternator bracket was way too small. i had to drill out the hole in the bracket and find a bigger bolt to put through. oh, and check to make sure they didn't come off a 351 before you buy head bolts, otherwise, you'll have a set of 7/16" headbolts that cost you too much money just sittin aroun and have to pay an extra $19 on top of the new head bolts to have them overnighted.
it will wake up the car though :D

I just got a set of the GT40's from a 23,000 mile Explorer yesterday. He was asking $100 if I pulled them, but he took my E7 heads and 2 intake manifolds in trdae instead.

Unfortunately I don't live in the states. Over here everything is a bit more expensive. So $300 to $400 would be OK.
This a very nasty disease you know. I'm already eyeballing a set of BBK unequal shorties to go with those heads. But those will have to wait.
