My girlfriend's cousin was the owner of a maroon LS V-6. She loved the car and had it for a couple of years. Small electrical stuff started going on with it so she was ready to sell/trade. She got an 05 Altima 3.5L V-6. On a recent trip from Nashville to her husband's parent's place in North Carolina they saw an average gas mileage of 33 both ways but it dropped while there. That is EXACTLY the same mileage I saw in my Towncar taking the same route on my last two vacations to North Carolina. That is my mileage with the trunk full of stuff for a week+ vacation and including the running around we did once there. They didn't believe that my car could get that good until my girlfriends mom backed me up as we went out there with them. Life in a Lincoln is Grand!!! ;) :D

I posted this before and I am posting again, I have no idea how you guys get that mileage, the best I could ever get out of my Mark was 18 exactly and the best out of my old TC was 19. Drove and sold million Town Cars and Grand Marquis, never seen them do better than 19.

Sure there's not some lead-foot syndrome involved, Mega? :D tongue.gif My Mark will sometimes pull over 30mpg in highway driving.

I still get 21mpg on the highway regardless of AC or windows down. I am driving in flat land central arkansas to southern illinois. Foot in the pedal and conservative it remains the same. '84 TC with new 302 with original cfi and dual exhaust in 03', mpg before engine change was 18-20mpg. I usually drive 75mph give or take 5.
Hope some others like and same year will chime in with back-up.

Kat, I think that I am an average driver but I do agree that cars wear faster with me than anybody else I know :D but despite that, I have never seen a Lincoln do better than 19. Last month we took the mark to Key West, doing about 55 to 60 all the way with about 20 times when I had to floor it to pass some idiot towing a boat and the best we ever got was 18 and before we started on the trip the car was always doing no better than 15. But maybe you are right, it’s the led foot, I Admit it redface.gif

My LSC's that I have and have had, except for one, consistently get 18-21mpg in flatland local driving 40-60mph with few stoplights. At Interstate 65-75 it's 23-25 but drops to 22 at 79. The same local driving with the 88-90BB gets 20-22 and 24-26 at 65-75. All Marks are basicly stock.

I can say without fear of contridiction Megaforcer is a driving maniac, having covered severall hundred miles as a passenger frozen to the seat with fear I am suprized he even gets as much as 19mpg :D

My 92 TC does about 43mpg around town and 57mpg on the freeway, just aswell as I am paying $7.30 a gallon.

So, how are all these mileage calculations being made? Onboard computer, or the old way using miles driven and gas consumed?

My computer consistantly gives me 23 - 25 for highway trips. Around town it seems to drop pretty quick so I try to ignore it. smile.gif

I've never verified this with a calculation.

On a trip of 25 miles or more, my '90 Mark VII gets 25 mpg+ at around 70 mph. My '94 mark VIII gets 27 mpg+ highway, same speed. They both get 14-16 mpg around town, which is to be expected when you're constantly launching a car that weighs almost 2 tons. These mpg readings are from almost 10 years with the Mark VII and over 5 years with the Mark VIII, and they've remained pretty constant.

HELLO????..........

Dereck, are you sure you're not confusing your liters/gallons/metric tons/millimetre/centimetre/kilometre/nautical mile/yard/hectare/decimetre/milligram/hundredweight /..........

Hey Dereck,

You must be pumping your tires up to 100lbs, drafting on tractor/trailer rigs, and shutting the engine off while going down hill to get that kind of mileage. :D

Actually Mega, I'd wonder if it's just something about Florida gas. We've got about a bajillion different formulations for it, I wonder if the one or ones in your area just don't click with Fords for some reason. I see this phenomenon here in PA with a couple of different Audi motors.

Guys, what you don't know is that Dereck has modded his TC. Carbon fiber body panels, aluminum frame, those Volk wheels that weigh 12 lbs each, stripped the interior... it's also the fastest TC in Liverpool now!

Jonathon you can actually get 33mpg in a Town Car? The most I'll ever get is 28mpg in the Mark VIII...maybe 29mpg if I turn off the a/c.

That reminds me, these tripminders are pretty darn accurate. I used to calculate the old fashioned way a lot but the computer was never more than .5mpg off that I stopped caring about verifying it.

Cloud, her Altima has the 3.5 so mileage will be worse than yours slightly.

Pro, I relied on the trip computer while driving but after getting back I figured it the old fashioned way and I like you was within right at what the computer showed so I trust it for mileage calculations. I know on our last trip, My girlfriend's dad had to fill his 03 Ram truck up at least twice for every one time I had to fill mine up and he has a 26 gallon tank and fills it right up to the top of the filler tube. He was averaging right about 15mpg. This has remained fairly consistent on several trips from Nashville to Pigeon Forge and several trips from Nashville to different locations in North Carolina. The last trip was right at 1800 miles and she kept an average of right at 30 for the trip which included lots of highway along with a weeks worth of city driving and 2 of the tires sitting at 30psi with the other 2 at 35 where I usually keep them. Don't know how I did that as i checked them before I left but I did use two different gauges because I sat one down and couldn't find it so I just grabbed my other one in the glove box.

That was not my point, my point was I got wayyy better mileage switching to an alti =P Plus, that 3.5 has more power than your 4.6 ;)

05' 3.5L with a v6 has 250hp 249tq....

It'll probably make something real close to the TC's 210hp if you have to run TC fuel in it...regular gas, that is. ;)

Hi Guys

I can say without fear of contradiction Dereck was wearing his diapers all the time he was in my car. He had to change twice when we got pulled over in the middle of the ghetto and he probably lost about 10 years on his trip to FL :D

Her car may have more HP but those torque numbers don't quite match up to the 4.6L. Granted the Towncar is bigger so that kinda evens that out. Oh well.

As for mileage, I can't get down to 14 with my foot pushed through the floor 24-7 so I am not all that impressed with the mileage of these newer small cars. Anything that weighs 2 tons, has a V-8, and gets around the same gas mileage as a small economy car with a I-4 or V-6 has my vote. Not to mention all the luxury amenities it has over them.

All I have to say is my alti rides and drives nicer than that linc did. I hate to say it but it is 100% true.

On my 4rth trip up and down the east coast, From Miami to VT and Canada and back, mileage has always been consistent at 25 to 25.5 per gallon. Speed is also constant on 75 to 80. I drive with gps and Street atlas USA onboard, and calculate mileage on full tanks and miles elapsed. Now in Miami, it is a different story.. around town is never more that 15.5, and mixed city /hwy is around 19.5 to 20 mpg.
Still, all that room and sweet ride on the long trips is extremely worth it.
Angel
