Seafoam is the coolest sh*t to ever be produced by man, far surpassing the invention of the wheel. Currently fixing up my Aunt's 88 Town Car Signature(pretty nice ride, 80k, nicely loaded, needs a lot of attention for the little things like battery cables and a tune up) and before I swapped the plugs, I put a little seafoam in the vacuum line...

Started it up, and lotsa smoke came out the back of the dual exhausts! Woweee, good thing it was dark outside and the neighbors couldn't see!

Car idles better, has much better throttle response. Now I just gotta finish the tune up, fuel filter, oil change, fan cluth, battery cables, and I'll enjoy it for the rest of the weekend.

Town Car + Seafoam rules! This car is sweeeeeeeet. Now I gotta convince my Aunt to not overfill the oil and actually read the dipstick.

Drunk off the smooth ride, pillow top velour seats, and digital gauges of a Town Car, maybe!

Seafoam rules.

Anyone care to explain why an 88 Town Car is listed with 3 different spark plug gaps? .05, .054, or .044.

I'm going with .05. Sheesh, this is getting confusing. smile.gif

If the car still has the emissions sticker on the fan shroud, it should say the plug gap on it.

Different plug manufactureres specify different gaps for thier own plugs.

I would go with a .048" gap for an 88 TC.

Did you know you can get the same effect using diesel? and it's cheaper ;)

Thanks Capt. Couldn't find the stupid sticker under the hood! Then I saw the emissions sticker on the fan shroud, which was in the backyard as I was replacing the fan clutch at the time. It says .048 to .052, IIRC. So .05 it was.

Here's a list of stuff done to it this weekend:

1. Seafoam (my hero smile.gif )
2. plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV, fuel filter
3. oil change (and I thought Foxobodies were easy)
4. new hood struts
5. battery cables
6. Reattached rear door panel
7. diagnosed a broken power seat cable
8. new fan clutch
9. spent a good hour cleaning under the hood and another hour cleaning outside
10. Vinyl protectant on the tires and top, really woke up the look of it.

All in all, a fun weekend. Too bad I didn't take before and after pics. My neighbor was shocked at the difference. Hoopty came in the garage, beauty queen came out. Who needs XZIBIT when Pro can pimp your ride.**

**ride must be a Lincoln, Mercury or Ford product

Ben wants ride pimped. :( (especially since it's half primer right now, kinda embarrasing)

By the way, I'll even break out the swamp cooler for the garage since it's 109* outside right now. :(

The oil consumption will years before the Seafoam will.

This is one of the few products widely prescribed by most everyone here, if you trust what we tell you then you are set.
There are other alternatives but this is the ONLY product Ford recommends to clean out injection systems other then there own product, and I personally believe Fords product is made by Seafoam.

BTW, which vacuum line are you talking about?

I used the line that feeds the cruise control servo. Easier than getting the PCV from the back of that motor.

And I'll drive up to big D and pimp your ride, if you go to OKC and pimp Kat's ride. smile.gif

Just put a new set of Michelin Symmetrys on the car. Man, not only is the ride much better but the handling is too!

Gonna have a hard time saying goodbye to this car tomorrow. Then again, I will get my VIII back, so I donno why I'm so sad. :(

I was totally a Seafoam skeptical, until I used it this morning and wow. I can already tell a big dif in my 92tc's overall performance after just putting some into the vacuum lines and the rest into the tank. I think I might go buy another can and put it into the vacuum lines again as I think while i was putting it in I Was to slow and didn't get the full effect, cause the car only smoked a second then it was done /shrug

But yeah, Seafom rocks hardcore!

The Town Car guys know the deal.

Course I used it in my Mark VIII and it did nothing. Oh well, still a good product that is overly hyped on this messageboard! tongue.gif

This forum is a better advertisement for Seafoam than anything their marketing department could ever put together.

Unless... you guys wanna work for Seafoam? Doubtful they've got anyone nearing the levels of expertise found here.

I did Seafoam again last night in my 96 TC. The first time I let the vacuum hose suck it up fast and this time (20K miles later) I let it run in slowly.

The car smoked in the front yard under the old oak tree for at least 15 minutes after I restarted it and average MPG on my routine drive has rebounded from 21.6 up to 24.4.

I used Seafoam in my 84 Mark and the difference was....eh...so,so. Lots of cool smoke though. But then.....I used 2 cans of it in a truck at work (89 F-250, 460 4x4, fresh tuneup, etc) that idled like crap and just felt "rough". After Seafoam, it was like a new truck. One through the intake and one in the tank.

Marine mechanics use it in engines that have sucked water. They put it in the oil to help get rid of the moisture also. The guys on the TurboFord.org board had talked about using it in the head-gasket blowing 2.3's.

I found that RV people use it as a fuel stabilizer. When you've got 50 gallons of fuel in you rig you don't want it going bad from sitting.

I used it in my old 68 Ford 250 w/360. Runs like a top afterwards, and I always put some in the fuel. This truck sits a lot, and even after 9-10 months of sitting, it fires right up and runs with no drama at all. (fires right up after getting the bowls full...)
Used to be if I needed to use it I''d have to pull the carb and clean it out and replace a gasket or two.
Use it in the lawnmower gas too. Used to take two tanks to do the whole yard. After using Seafoam in the fuel it takes less than one and the engine runs better at a lower rpm. Normaly you have to really crank it up to mow.

In short, the stuff works. It's one of the few things I've found that does...

Well i tried it. I put half a can in the intake and half in the gas tank. So far nothing. I dont know if i used enough, but i guess no news is better than bad news.

Maybe our engines are fairly clean? Did it yesterday to the VengaBus, just like the can directions said. No or not enough smoke to notice. Idle does seem a little more consistent.

May 30th, 2005, 12:32 PM
I should do that to my car.. idle is a bit rough.. Anything else you have to do besides pour the seafoam in? I heard someone say about changing the plugs or something..

pro-five-oh
May 31st, 2005, 09:17 AM
Seafoam did nothing in my Mark VIII, I guess it really did have highway miles and no buildup.

But its one of the few things I've used that will actually work if its needed.

Plugs may need to be changed afterwards, all that junk seafoam blows out does come in contact with the plug. Pulled the plugs on the Town Car after seafoam, 3 of them were covered in black junk...probably Seafoam at work!

this seemed the most logical place to post this. In my 96 conti, i used the seafoam through the brake vacuum hose, got a nice big smoke show at first, then it took over 45min to stop the white smoke. However, the weird part is that when its revved at 3900 rpm, it puffs maybe twice a second. When we reach just over 4000rpm, it puffs like 10 times a second. I didnt notice it doing it prior to useing the seafoam, but i don't recall actually revving it that high while in park. So we took it for a spin, but it was raining and i couldnt hear the puff over the sound of the Traction Control engaging. So, is this normal, and will it go away?

BTW, this car sounds amazing when revved. I almost forgot i had such a great sounding car. One of these days, perhaps ill lose the airbox.

June 27th, 2005, 08:22 PM
hmm, it appears 2nd gen mark viii's have a no-load rev limiter set at 4000 rpm, this could def be the case in my continental. smile.gif

aristo1963
June 27th, 2005, 11:31 PM
yes gimp we are rev limited and 129mph limited

gimpgutter
June 28th, 2005, 01:41 AM
well this is the no-load rev limiter....when the car is in park or neutral. When i took it on the road again and revved it to about 5500 rpms, it never cut out or puffed.

my MPG is still only about 15 local. dissapointing :(

pro-five-oh
June 28th, 2005, 10:34 AM
Man, that's more reason to love my '95 LSC. Could be worse, though...LS's and those new Tbird's have a 3000 rpm no load limiter.

I'm sure a superchip can eliminate the no load limiter also.

Gawd, its rubbing off!
My name is Jon and I bought a bottle of SeaFoam today (I have never seen it up here before!)
I'll run it throu the car once I have my new tank in and everything is hunky-dory with it and see if it's as good as y'all say :D
