LoL guys (and gals) are probably some of the best of the best out there, both in cyberspace and real life. Glad to hear you were taken care of, though I feel a near-Darwin Award story coming... :D

Well glad they were there for you. I just got done thanking you a ton for helping me with a dilemma I have been having on rear gears. Glad to see your back in action. How bad are you banged up? Is the car salvagable or a total loss? Hope all is well with you and have a good night.

oh the car is fine. i whacked the fan shroud with the motor running and the shroud broke. sliced the hell out of two fingers on my right hand. 9 stitches in the pinky, chipped bone, partially cut tendon. 5 stitches on my ring finger. not one of my smarter moments. now i pay for that moment of poor judgement with a hand that hurts like mad and at least a week off work. i also have no medical insurance, so things are going to get interesting shortly. docs want me to go to a hand surgeon to make sure the tendon is ok, then i'm gonna guess physical therapy after that. blah. oh well, this is what happens when we do stupid shit without thinking about it first.

So todays lesson kiddies: dont play around the fan with the engine running.

That really sucks but at least the car is fine. ;) Hopefully everything from here on out will work out for the best. Hey, at least you have all above mentioned limbs still attatched. It could always be worse.

Damn shitty man. If it makes you feel any better I was messing with the 'new' Cav yesterday and was tracing coolant hoses with the engine running looking for a leak or soft hose etc and stuck my right hand into the alternator fan.

It gashed my ring finger pretty good and bruised the knuckle, but I think I got off easy on that one.

Except that my sig other was standing right there and staring in horror at me after I did that, looked at my busted knuckle, with a straight face said "Well that was stupid" and continued to diagnose the car, just holding that hand back behind my back.

What can I say, I'm a guy. As Jeff Foxworthy said, I could hack off a leg with a chainsaw, and while hopping on the other one ask for another beer. (I don't drink, but ya' get the point) :D

Glad you are OK Gadget!

We've all done stuff like this before, so don't sweat it. That's why we are all here. Again, glad you posted that you are OK!

In fact, there is a thread started over on the other sight that you should chime in on. All of us are concerned about ya! smile.gif

Damn man, glad you're ok!

Long story...but I once had my finger wacked by a flex fan with no shroud on my old Camaro on a pitch black country road trying to switch batteries while the car was running. You know how "they" say that when you get a finger cut off that you don't really feel it? Yeah, I was scared as a mother f*cker to look at it - but it's still there lol

Anyways, good luck on the rehab, dude!

Damn, Thain! I was about 6 minutes out of the parking lot when you got veg-a-maticated by your fan. As soon as Scott called, I knew exactly how far the hospital was and the shortest way to get you there. Good that Oldschool met you at the corner where the cart lot was to guide ya from there. Take it easy, Bubba ... don't worry about anything except getting back to 100%.

SIDE NOTE: OldSchool ... we NEED to get EVERYONE'S cell phone numbers that come to the meets..just in case other accidents happen!

thanks guys, i appreciate it. i've been wanting to take some time off work, and i guess this is one way of doing it. not the best way tho cuz it f'n hurts. actually my wrist is bothering me more than the finger right now because its all stiff from being splinted up.

DS: yeah, thats pretty much what I said. the whole way to the hospital i was more worried about blood stains on my seats than anything else. blood is a pain to clean off light grey velour.

I know how these things happen.
I have one finger that is just under a 1/4 inch shorter then it's opposing sister, I also have a finger that looks fine if you look at the front of it but from the top down is twisted and slightly mis-shapen from having a Automatic Transmission in a crate dropped on my fingers.

Hi Thain

Here's wishing you get well soon from across the pond, there probably isn't a mechanic on the planet that hasn't put thier fingers in a fan blade.

Take care dude
