Was visiting the Helms web site looking for the OEM Shop Manual. Just wanted to make sure the one I'm picking is the best one to get for my 2001 LS - it's entitled "2001 Lincoln LS Workshop Manual" for $140. The CD is $190. Anyone have an opinion on which is better, the hard copy or the CD ? Are there any other manuals I should get?

thanks.

mark.

I like the paper manual, some like the CD. Look on eBay for a better price than Helm's.
If Helm lists a separate EVTM for your car, get that also.

check out flatratetech.com the may have some of the dvds left for the LS. The going price there is 50 dollars.

It is the same data they use for their jobs and irrc it comes with the evtm. I have the factory shop manuals Vol1 and Vol2 and they both have very similar content.

you might want to consider signing up for a DIY membership to www.alldata.com. (http://www.alldata.com.) I have access to this service and it is very similar to the OEM manuals.

I ordered a copy of the CD from Ebay for $20 - said it has the EVTM info too. We'll see, for $20 it's not much of a risk. I've got a pretty good printer at home, so I don't mind having to print things out that I need. I'll check out the AllData reference. Thanks

Is a CD or DVD service manual for the 2004 available now?

It's a CD. I haven't spent much time looking at it. I did review the "taking apart the engine" section and it seemed fairly detailed. Not bad for $20.

Yea, these CD's are a great value. They are the same ones used in the dealer service depts. and are IMHO the most comprehensive service information available. One of the reasons they are plentiful and cheap is because they are updated every so often (every 3 mos?) to correct minor errors and things of that nature. The dealers just toss the old ones (the techs usually get 'em). The CD's have been around since 1992 and they went to DVD format sometime after 2001.
The best part is one CD covers all F\L\M vehicles for that model year (Trucks are separate) and they contain EVTM and the emissions manual.
