There's a $6 modification kit sold on eBay that seems suspicious. Any idea what it could be about?

Scam.

Any seller with sunglasses on his profile is not exactly on the up and up. That and he spells "designs" with a "z" instead of an "s." I still don't get why that is cool!!!

These kits are usually a resistor of some sorts that you put in series with the O2 sensors, making the car run rich all the time. Just like installing a cold thermostat. His claim of 20hp? Prove it with a dyno sheet, pal. smile.gif

Even worse are the guys who sell EGR bypass kits and claim 20hp gains. In stock form, the EGR is closed at full throttle...I see no benefit in bypassing it all the time. It will actually hurt emissions and drivability.

Again, if they think their product is "da bomb" they need to put out the dyno "sheetz" to make me a believer.
