Hello everyone,I need some tips on my LS.Got the 3.9 v-8 2000 model LS8 sport.73,000 miles no problems until now.If i give the car throttle while in park to 3000 rpm it starts to bog out.like it;s blocked up.If you drive the car without pushing rpm over 3000 it;s ok,But a lil shift jerk sometimes. This has just happened it ran fine one day and doing this the next.Any help appreciated.I run super unleaded fuel, threw in some fuel injection cleaner.Just bought new fuel filter but not installed yet.Any one know where it is located?Any way the car won't run like a rocket like it did help.socks66/ razer70@hotmail.com

Sounds like an EFI problem. It could be one of a hundred things. If it was my car, I'd spend $75 for a computer diagnosis at the dealer. Their $20K machine does an excellent job of pinpointing engine management problems. Get an estimate for repair and go from there.

The dealer told me my check engine light has to be on?The light will flash occasionally then go out.I changed the fuel filter this weekend ,it was the original.Pretty easy install,no change in performance.plugs next.Thks

If the light came on that means a code was generated. The dealer should check the system for a malfunction whether or not the light stays on. smile.gif

1. There is a neutral & park rev limiter that will limit the RPM to 3000. This rev limiter has nothing to do with the "jerk" while shifting that you describe.
2. See my comments on another topic here, but at 73,000 miles the 1st places to look is fuel pressure. You could be having problems with your fuel pumps (yes there are 2), especially if you run you LS with the gas tanks low. The fuel pumps like lots of gas in the tanks to keep them cool.
3. Check to make sure that you do not have any oil leaking from the cam covers into the spark plug wells. It is somewhat common 2000 LS's with high mileage to have a little oil leaking from the cam covers. If the oil collects in the spark plug wells, it can degrade or damage the coils (there are 8 of them). This will cause your LS to run lousy at high RPM.
4. There have been several revisions to the PCM code, which also controls the transmision. The last significant change to the PCM code was November 00. There is also a June 01 revision which only corrects which calibration info applies to which model. If you '00 LS has never been upgraded to the latest PCM code, it can make a big improvement in the shifting.

Believe it or not, THAT could be your engine's problem.
Using Higher Octane gasoline than an a engine requires WILL result in carbon buildup in the combustion chambers, intake and EGR valve.
High Octane fuel burns COLDER and SLOWER than Low Octane fuel BTW. If your engine runs fine and does NOT detonate (ping) on 87 Octane, then any higher Octane fuel is a complete waste of $$.
As a result of the increase deposits this also will cause the engine to run excessively RICH resulting in plugged up Converters.
My first suggestion would be to fill up with 87 Octane, change your spark plugs and then go and do a "Katmandu Tune-Up"!
Meaning go WOT as much as you can and Blow the Soot out of your engine! tongue.gif tongue.gif :D
Do that and report back in to us!

The 2000 - 2002 LS V8 has a 10.55:1 compression ratio. 91 octane is recommended.
The LS 3.9L also has a knock sensor, so if you put in 87 it will retard the timing and should not ping, however gas mileage will be lower and you will also loose some power.
Although the recommended mileage for plug replacement is 100K, I agree with Katmandu that at 73K it may be worth it to change the plugs.

hey guys,I found my problem.I got the codes checked out and ,#7 plug was misfiring.I put in all new plugs and the car ran 100% better. The new plugs specs say gap at.044 the old plugs were worn enough to gap out at a wopping .055-.058 i drove it with immediate noticable difference took a 60 mile ride and on the way back, the check engine light went out and has not been on since. So it's all better now, other than a slight bucking i get now and then at around 35-40 mph wonder if it might be drive shaft universal joints?Any way thanks for all your input,it was all greatly appreciated.socks...

So much for 100,000 mile plugs!
Glad you got that problem fixed.
The LS does not have U-joints.
