First of all Hi everyone.

Our 01 LS has a hesitates when you try to accelerate (like when entering oncoming traffic). We took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
So I just wrote it off as luxury car softness. Now I'm not so sure as it seems to be happening more often.

I know that the transmission shifts way too soft, almost to the point of being stupid.

Hypertech doesn't list a PCM reprogrammer to change the shift points. Besides, that won't fix the hesitation.

Anyone got any other ideas?

I forgot to mention this is the V8 Sport package.

My '01 V6 does this as well. I told the dealer about it, they took it out for a drive, didn't do it, they told me they would have to keep my car for a day or two to look it over, I needed my car, figured they wouldn't find anything anyways. It also has a rough idle.

There should not be any hesitation with either the V6 or V8. Many hesitation issues with the LS have been traced to fuel flow problems.

1. If the fuel filter has not been changed, start there.

2. The LS uses a split fuel tank with a pump that pumps gas between the 2 tanks and another pump to feed the engine. There have been some reports of fuel pump failures on high mileage LS's.

If there is not a fuel pressure problem (the dealer should be able to measure it) another place to look is the coils. The LS uses coil on plug ignition, that is each spark plug has its own coil. There are some V8 LS's that have had degraded and failed coils due to oil leaking from the cam covers into the spark plug wells, so check there or have your dealer check it.

As far as shifting goes, if your LS was made before 10/18/00 have the dealer check the PCM code revision. They should have this info on OASIS. That is the date if the last PCM code revision. There is also a June 01 revision, but the actual code is the same, there just are some corrections to the calibrations for specific models.

I checked the data code and it is 01/01. I will have the dealer check to see if the June revision applies to my car though.

As far as mileage, the car has about 20k on it so it is not high mileage. It almost acts like a carbureted car with a bad accelerator pump.

I have noticed that the engine compartment gets awfully dirty. Doubt that has anything to do with it but it sure looks bad.

I was wondering if this can affect gas mileage, as you mentioned fuel flow problem? I only average about 170/tank in my LS...

Sounds like a dirty MAF unit and/or Air Filter. Clean the wires inside it.

Check with Dennis at www.reinhartautomotive.com (http://www.reinhartautomotive.com) on Chips for your LS. Dennis is HIGHLY Regarded in modifing other Ford products!

His Chips are 2nd to none!

170 what? Miles, or KM? I hope you don't mean 170 miles per tank.

Holy shit dude?? 170 miles per tank? You have an 18 gallon tank in the v6 model, right? On my first tank of gas, I got 295 miles before I filled up <16.87 gallons, but im not sure how full it was cause of the issue with the nozzle stopping I am having>. How hard do you drive that car? I have the V8 model and although I press the gas pretty good, I don't floor it, no need to. My highway mileage according to the automatic guage was saying between 20-25mpg, <I do mostly highway driving>. 295 miles divided by 16.87 gallons gives me approximately 17.5mpg for my first tank. Damn, 170miles, that is unbelievable, you should really have that checked dude.

What sort of driving are you doing?

How many gallons are you putting in the tank at 170 miles?

If all your driving is short trips and stop and go, 17 MPG may be typical, especially if you live where your gas is re-formulated and has MTBE in it. But if you are getting 10 MPG,unless you leave your LS idling all day long, somehthing seriously wrong with it.

My '00 LS V8 runs up to 26 MPG for all highway at around 75 MPG.

In all around driving, which for me is 20% city, 40% interstate and 40% back roads (2 lane roads, with just occasional stop signs and stop lights I get around 21 MPG.

I also agree with Katmandu, the MAF is another plce to look (besides coils). If any dirt or dust has gotten on the MAF wire it will really screw up the way the engine runs. If the MAF is OK look next at the coils.

The PCM on the Lincoln LS is unlike any other Ford product (except the T-Bird).

The LS also has an engine knock sensor so it already advances the timing as much as possible, thus eliminating one of the "chip" tricks.

As far as I know, no-one has been able to crack the PCM code for the LS. The way it is set up, there is no place to put a chip. All that can be done is to connect to the OBD-II port which allows adjustment of a few parameters, such as A/F mix within a limited range.

I do only city driving. I don't really rev the car or speed or slam the pedal, the way I have the car setup it's slow anyways so no sense. I tried contacting my dealer about it but never got a response.
