Has anyone heard of plans for an aftermarket supercharger on the 3.9 V8?

I've talked to a couple of vendors who have indicated that while it is possible it is not recommended due to the high compression ratio (10.5:1) of the productio engine. The one attempt I heard about by a very well-known Ford tuner had rather disastrous results. The engine blew up running 3 pounds of boost. So without extensive engine modifications you will end up with a grenade engine.

It is clear these motors are wisely engineered, not over-engineered. Ford has done a good job of optimizing the parts and building the engine with a nice, light & tight reciprocating assembly. It's not the good ole' days of gross overdesign, like 5.0L HO's that would withstand 10 lbs boost forever & almost double the factory HP output. Also, the modern lightweight tight-clearance pistons are built to be Lexus quiet. Heavy forged pistons like those used in a Chevy LT1 (with a similar 10+ compression ratio) or 5.0L HO would be too noisy for a modern Lincoln. They require loose, rattly clearances compared to the slightly weaker hypereutectics that do not change size much with temps. Ford now builds each motor to the car model and duty it's intended to see. This is why the 32V Cobra 4.6L is so different than it's 32V cousin in the Mark VIII. Everything from the intake to the crank to the block to the assembly line is different.

The Jag V8 in the "R" Models is a similar V8 that's in the LS, so it's conceiveable that one could retrofit a Jag 4.0 into an LS.
