Just yesterday I bought a 1986 MKVII - a beautiful, black on black car Of the things "wrong" wiht it, the previous owner disclosed that when idling, eventually it would stall after a few minutes. In fact, it did just that. His and his wife's "fix" was to keep it running by using the gas pedal.

As of today, however, it will only start and then run for a few seconds. After that first start/run for 3 - 5 seconds, the engine will turn over but pushing on the gas pedal produces no affect. It does start every time, but then quickly dies. Is this my fuel pump? IF so, why would it keep starting...residual fuel in the gas lines? I have changed both sensors on th etop and side of the throttle body all to no avail. please help!!!!!
