I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who would appreciate a more responsive shifting LS. I have the V8, automatic, sports package combo. I have been told that some owners have replaced a "Chip" to get crisper shifting--even my dealer told me about this, yet no one has be able to tell me where I might acquire one, does anyone know about this? and where I may get one?

There have been several versions of what is called the PCM software (Powertrain Control Module). The PCM controls just about everything on the LS, not just the transmission. Lincoln referes to this reprogramming as a "PCM Reflash"

The software is downloaded through a computer connection, there are no chips to replace. Your dealer should have been able to explain this to you.

Since your dealer appears to be a little out of it, you should ask them to look up TSB (Technical Service Buletin) # 01-01-05. Also be aware that the way the Lincoln service system works you need to complain about a specific problem or problems. The specific verbage you should use is:
"Harsh Upshifts and downshifts"
"Erattic Upshifts"
"Delayed Downshifts"
If your LS is still in warranty you should not be charged for the PCM reflash.

You did not say what year your LS is, but be aware that there have been several versions of PCM software. If your LS is a 2001 model built after 9/27/00 or a 2002 model you should already have the latest PCM code and may have a different problem. Also note that if you LS was built before Dec 1999 there will also be improvements to the engine, specifically idle, low load surging and shortend crank times before starting.

Finally, if you do have a 2000 or early 2001 LS, the latest PCM software makes a huge improvement. The shifts are much faster andt it just feels like the trannie is in the right gear more often than before.
