If the Town Car is basically a fancy version of the Crown Vic, and the Continental is a fancy version of the Taurus, what is the LS based on?

I believe I recall reading it's based on the new T-Bird, or maybe it was the 200? Continetal that's going to be based on the T-Bird.

It is based on the Jaguar S-Type. The 3.9L V8 is basically a de-stroked 4.0L Jag motor and most of the suspension and chassis bits are the same. Both the standard Jag and LS use the Ford DOHC V6 from the Taurus, with a bit more power.
The Tbird came from the LS, not the other way around. smile.gif No idea if/when the Conti will show up.

The LS is a thoroughbred by Lincoln standards. It shares its lineage with the Jaguar S-Type. They were co-developed on the DEW98 platform. The T-Bird sprung from the LS and it is said the next Mustang will be spawned from the LS's chassis too.

The Mustang is supposed to be made on a "low cost" derivative of the DEW98 called DEW-lite! :D
As long as they modify the DEW to fit a 4.6 and a 5.4 in there we'll be fine.

I wouldn't be opposed to a 3.8L or 4.0L engine in the new Mustang as long as they do it right, which of course they won't. It would be real nice to see a stock Lincoln smoking ricers.
