Hey guys i am torn on getting a winter mobile. I need something reliable. As you can see i am a towncar man through and through and know they are reliable. I was thinking of crossing over into LS territory. It is going to be mainly a wintermobile and i dont think a towncar will be as good for winter as a TC.

So i was wondering if many of you have had repair issues with your LS. Would it be easy to repair and would you rebuy your LS. I am unfamiliar with the car and i am looking into the 00-02 vehicles. Any input would be appreciated and would help me out greatly.

Thanks

Big Joe

I don't have the measurements at my fingertips, but I believe the TC has more ground clearance than the LS. If so, the TC should be better in snow.

My winter mobile is my wife's front wheel drive Taurus. Snow is the only time I'd rather drive a FWD.

I actually prefer RWD in the snow. I can flick the tail out and compensate for slides easily. I only have a litle more trouble with hills. If you get 4, good snow tires, like Bridgestone Blizzaks, in a narrower width then you should be fine, especially in a heavier car with some weiht in the trunk if it is RWD. I'd mount them on a second set of narrower wheels.

I agree i believe rear wheel drive is easier to keep your bearings in the snow. I think that 50/50 wieght distrobution is gonna come in handy as well. The main reason we are going to the LS is because the woman is sharing the car and we are going halfs, or else it would be a TC for me, LOL. (She says the TC is to big to drive.)

But the main thing i have concerns about is the repair issues. Im afraid of this thing breaking down on me at 60k miles in the middle of the winter, blowing a motor or a transmission. I know absolutely nothing about the 3.9 or the v6. I would hate to drop 15k on a car and have it break down on me like my explorer has done thus far.

Now i know why i love this site. I was looking into some previous posts to my exact question and i found what i was looking for. You have to love the car and its quirks.

The LS is just peachy, but if you need a winter beater/car for your girl a Taurus would be better. Not to mention you'll save thousands of dollars, to get something else like a Plasma TV or a house or something. ;)

If you want to leave the Lincoln logo behind and live in an area where there's REALLY winter (Vermont, Maine, etc.) think Subaru; until I spent a winter in the NH/VT area, I didn't know there were that many Subaru cars/wagons in the world.

I agree with ekooke. I had a Subaru for my first car. I can tell you I had the best traction ever in the snow. Car was great in the winter, one of the things I miss about that little wagon. AWD is great. Get an Impreza. They are very reliable cars. Never had eny problems with mine till the head gasket started going at about 216,000 miles. smile.gif

Or rather than a Taurus, go with a Conti. The same size as the Taurus but with the lincoln additions to it. I mean hell, Silver Cobra has one in Canada so they can't be that bad. ;)
