The plastic widget on the back of spare tire cover -- that hooks onto the top front of the trunk opening -- refuses to hold the cover up.
Depending on temperature, the plastic bends in seconds to minutes (maybe longer in winter): cover fall down go bang.
Anybody know of a fix?

Is the hook defective or broke? Is it just sliding off of the back of the weatherstriping? I've never seen this problem before.

Yesterday the dealership told me this is normal! They offered to get another plastic piece, but they expect no improvement.
The plastic is not broken, it just bends slowly (speed depends on temperature) then slips off the weatherstripping. Then the cover whacks you, if you are working in the spare tire area.
The mechanic compared mine with another LS. The other slipped off faster.
So, is this normal or not? I have a 2004 LS.

It's normal for my 2002.

Must be normal but mine stays up. Wow, that can be a loaded statement huh?
