Anyone know of anyway to get better MPG besides K&N and CAI? I have a v8.

The only thing that really negatively affects my otherwise good average mpg of my V6 LS of 23-24 mpg on a tank - is to avoid jack rabbit starts and full throttle passing, etc.

Otherwise, you've maxed out your potential.

Oh, hold on a minute - are you using pure synethic oil. That may help, too. (Mobil 1 is what I use, but I have the 2000 model, that recommends 5W-30 not the 5W-20 blend.)

I haven't went with synthetic yet. My V8 averages 20 mpg in town and 26 mpg on hwy

You'll never get 30 MPG with the LS. I have seen around 27 MPG on the highway on a long run but that was short lived once off of the interstate. I average around 20-21 but about 90% of my driving is on the interstate. When driving in the city it goes down to around 18 MPG.

I would suggest that you follow the manufacturers specification on fuel octane levels. It states in your owners manual that the LS was designed to run on at least 91 octane. If you go lower than that you'll definitely see a dip in gas mileage.

Put synthetic in, but honestly the numbers you are getting are pretty good for an LS. And only use premium gas, for sure.

Spend less time accelerating and braking, spend more time coasting...that's how I'm currently getting 20mpg in my Mark VIII...a bigger car with a bigger motor and a 4-spd auto. smile.gif

I second the pro.

Never press the accelerator. Never press the brakes.

That's the ultimate driving goal. It can't be achieved, but strive to approach it. It's easier on the hardware and on gas consumption.

Well, my 2000 V6 5 speed manual will get ca 27-28 in "normal" highway driving with AC on. That translates to keeping up with traffic at about 70. With cruise on and set on 64-65, will get ca. 31 on straight highway runs. Around town, from 16.5 in the winter to 18 in the summer. And I second the advice to keep the right foot gentle.

I guess your one of the lucky ones then. I have heard horror stories about the gas mileage on the LS regardless of which engine you have.
