Evening all:
Long time no post, but I put the 92 Town Car away over a year ago and concentrated on my 99 Lightning. In January, we traded our 98 Continental for an 02 but that is Mama's car, so no mods.
Anyway, the lease was up on my Lightning on Tuesday and I took it to our Lincoln dealer for a 20K service and a detail job prior to shopping it for an 02 Harley Davidson F150 or maybe even a diesel top of the line Excursion.
Dealer had 2 Blackwoods just delivered and almost as a joke I asked my salesman what he could do if I traded my Lightning on the less expensive of the two which was without the Navigation system. I was surprised that they even took the bait, but we negotiated both in the dealership and later when I got home on the phone. They were looking for my truck and $860 a month for 36 months. I countered the next day with my truck and $600 a month but I wanted the one with the Nav system which is a $2K option. Several more hours of negotiations ensued and in the end I got the one I wanted for $665 a month including taxes which is only $75 a month more than my Lightning which listed for $25K less.
So I don't look like a braggard, I had done my research and according to Automotive News, they are selling about 140 a month which means they are moving about as fast as a piece of gum stuck to the gym floor.
Kind of a shame, as my first impressions after 100 miles or so is that this truck is one piece of work. More dadburned gadgets than I can count, most of which I have not even tried yet. Kind of the ultimate American expression of excess. We own a 92 Town Car and an 02 Conti so we know from luxury and creature comforts but this one does beat all.
Go to the garage, hit the remote to raise the bed cover and throw in whatever I am taking to my store. Climb in the drivers seat and start it and adjust the seat air conditioner (it's spring in HotLanta) back out and hear the alarm when I am about to back into my daughter's wagon which is wrongly parked!, hit the CD button and the sunroof switch and head off for work. Hard to believe it's a pickup truck, albeit not a very practical one.
Would love to hear from anyone else who owns or leases one and I will report in from time to time my impressions after a few more miles.
