Schwarzenegger Chooses Navigator For Official State Ride
17 November 2003
Robert Lane
Arnold Schwarzenegger may be fond of his Hummers, but for official government work he chose the elegant Lincoln Navigator. Two Lincolns will officially enter service today - one based in Los Angeles and the other in Sacramento.
The governors of Rhode Island and Minnesota also use Lincoln Navigators as official state vehicles. Bill Allayaud, state director for the Sierra club said "It's disappointing he didn't pick a more fuel-efficient car to set an example for the citizens in our state." Arnold is not alone in choosing an SUV though and those who favor SUV's claim they offer more room and can double as a mobile office.
According to Ford, they lease 130 vehicles to governors and big-city mayors. Some 50% are cars while 40% are SUV's and 10% minivans.
California will lease the Navigators for $1,000 per month, which includes maintenance and insurance.
