I have an 03 Aviator. Recently I have noticed a stale air smell like a vacuum cleaner bag. I don't see anything in the manual about an air filter for the cabin. Anyone have a suggestion.

Don, I think you are right, no mention of a cabin air filter from what I remember. I would recommend a product called "Ozium" and spray it down the intake vent by the wiper arm and run the A/C.
Also make sure you do not have the recirculate button on for a while, I've noticed it sucks air by the passenger's feet...which can be a bad idea if that someone is wearing wet sandals.

Maybe this TSB would help?....Rich
LINCOLN: 2003-2005 Aviator
ISSUE:
Some 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviators may exhibit a chemical odor (freezer type smell) from the A/C system when driving 30 minutes or more at highway speeds. This condition only occurs in hot, humid climates and is due to condensation freezing/thawing on the front evaporator core.
NOTE: THIS TSB DOES NOT ADDRESS A/C MILDEW ODOR.
ACTION:
If the chemical odor is verified, remove the refrigerant containment switch, mounted on the front thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). Replace with a low pressure cycling switch and jumper harness supplied in the kit. Refer to the installation sheet included in the kit.
NOTE: THE A/C SYSTEM MUST BE RECOVERED PRIOR TO CONTAINMENT SWITCH REMOVAL.

When this happens to me it is because I tend to forget I have to dispose of the bodys a little faster. 2 days tops and things get a tad musty. :D

You're a horrify(ingly cool) person, Steve.
I tend to get about a week out of mine though.
