Doesn't provide a definitive answer, but it goes along with my theory that GM has managed to sell more of these turds only 'cause they hired better ad people than Ford...

Q: Why are Cadillacs better?
A: They are not!
GM is in a lot of hot water lately. Seems as if they can't get their vehicles to last through the warranty period. Cadillac is probably the best example of GM poor engineering. They look bad, they have horrible mechanical issues, they handle poorly, they don't have a high resale value, and cost a lot of money.
Better than what?
My mother informed me that she went to the Cadillac dealer and test drove a new CTS. The car had a bad vibration around 40MPH (a brand new car mind you). The salesperson told her the car will eat up a set of front tires in 15K miles due to an engineering defect. I suppose he told her this to upsell her to something more expensive. While in the dealer show room waiting to test drive a more expensive car, another customer indicated that they had a CTS and had to "lemon law" the thing.
Mom left the Cadillac dealership, went to the Nissan dealer and purchased a new Altima.
