Bill,

Ignore my email, I made it in to the forum.

I am looking at buying a 2002 Blackwood. My understanding is, the only option is the nav. system. So far, I have been unable to find one without the nav. system.

Before, I make an offer to the dealer, I wanted to get a feel for how much they are selling for. My research shows about 7,200 were built, but almost every dealer I have talked to has at least one and as many as four left on their lots.

I really like the look of the Blackwood and do not need another Luxury Car or Truck. Since the Blackwood is neither, I think it will be perfect for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Honestly you should get it for Dealer invoice and maybe $100-300 for dealer markup. As we all know, its a vehicle that will not sell...

If you haven't already go to autotrader.com and edmunds.com to check on pricing. I was connected to a local Lincoln-Mercuy fleet manager via autotrader and he gets me almost anything for dealer invoice or dealer invoice plus $100 or so. That's not including dealer incentive money or customer rebates. Not only that, the fleet manager in question has also become a good friend of mine!

In conclusion, I wouldn't even bid off the MSRP price that's on the window sticker. If a dealer wants to move a Blackwood, its invoice price or nothing! smile.gif

I found a new 2002 Blackwood with nav system for $36,995.00. What do you think?

Bill can correct me if I am wrong, but that's a pretty good price, especially if it has the Nav system. Remember that they are 2002 models, so don't be afraid to ask for more money off the top! smile.gif

Very sorry to be so long in replying, but we went to Toy Fair in Manhattan and got caught by the Blizzard of '03 and it got worse from there.

Bottom line for me is that the price you have been quoted is about the best you will get now for an 02 Blackwood. That is about a $20K discount off of list. The truck without GPS is about $52K list and the GPS equipped is about $2,500 more.

The upside is that you get one hell of a vehicle for a very low price "today". The potential downside is that if you don't want to keep the Blackwood for a fairly long period of time, it will have a pretty dismal wholesale value for the next few years because FMC and the dealers basically dumped the truck just to get rid of them. That was a marketing/financial decision not having anything to do with the real value of the vehicle to a prospective owner.

My take is that if you want what a Blackwood is and can get one for about $20K off and are willing to keep it for 5-10 years, go for it. If you are looking for a good deal today and hope to get your money back in 2-3 years you may possibly take a bath on the resale value according to the official evaluators of such things.

Life is about choices, now you get to make one.

Thanks for all the replies. If I buy the Blackwood, it is too keep for a long time. I have a hard time selling things I like:

2000 4X4 Expedition
2000 V92SC Motorcycle
1999 4X4 F 250 Crew Cab
2-1999 V92C Motorcycles
1995 Lincoln Towncar
1989 4X4 Jeep Cherokee
1988 4X4 Jeep Cherokee
1987 4X4 Jeep Comanchee
1984 4X4 F250 Diesel Pickup
1981 Chevrolet Corvette

It is an illness. None of them are projects, they all run and are registered and insured.

DaKat,

So far I have only driven about 30 miles in it. I was on a 400 mile motorcycle ride yesterday and then finished the deal when I got home.

The attention to details is very impressive. This truck/car or whatever it is, flat out rocks. It is almost like getting a new computer, it is going to take a while to learn how to use it.

Congratulations and welcome to the family!!!

Please accept my apologies for my goofy post of last night I had just driven for 10 hours in all those storms on the Eastern Seaboard and was pretty well done in. The Wood performed flawlessly but it was hard on the eyes and concentration.

I misspoke when calculating the discount and obviously you got about $16K off, not $20K. That deal died at the end of Jan., but you still got the best deal out there according to all of the input I have seen.

As to numbers, the best info I have so far is that there were only a little over 3,000 produced which makes this a very rare "production" vehicle indeed and one well worth keeping. Looking at your sig, you appreciate the value of such things so I know it will have a good home.

I will report on my 2200 mile trip later today. We were gone for over a week and I have a lot of honey-do's to take care of today.
