View Full Version : Rough Idle / Rough Ride

Ok, Here is again. I have a 95 Viii with 54K miles. I've had the car nine months, and about 6K miles.

It has a very rough idle - sometimes. Its rough enough to shake you, like a hot rod with a big cam. Loapy, would be the best description. The Dealer (who I have already written to Ford Corporate about for numerous blunders) claims it is normal. I think it is unacceptable on an expensive luxury car.

When I first got it, they had to replace one of the heads becuase the valve keeper was "missing" and the valve was open all the time. That helped, but has not solved the problem.

Anyone else seen this situation?

Also, at speed on the highway, 50-70 mph, the car shakes like a tire is out of balance. I just had them balanced and rotated. No difference. I'm wondering if the axles or drive shaft is out of balance. Anyone else seen this?

Thanks!

OOPS, sorry, my last post did not make it. I think the problem is the plug wires, had the same thing myself, the replacement OEM ones run anywhere from 120 to 150 bucks, I had to replace mine once. Be prepared for a hefty labor fee to install them. When one of my wires went bad, it shook and missed bad. Hope this helps, get the wires tested.

Are the Mark VIII wires any different than the DOHC Cobra wires? If not, you can get the Motorsport wires for about $90.00 bucks and they are way too easy to install. They are even numbered like the stockers.
Hope this helps--- Mad`

Ok, I'll try to get some plug wires. If the Air filter was any indication of the maintenance routine, they can't hurt. (the air filter was not really a filter, but a dam) I am inclined to believe that they are the same as a Cobra, but I will check into that. Assuming they are, where might I find those? SVO Catalog?

Thanks for the help, all. This forumn is great.

...Actually I used a set of Taylor wires which were made for a 96-98 Cobra and they fit fine.

Be sure to get the ignition system scoped diagnostic checked before you plop down the $130.00 bucks or so for a replacement set of wires, you might have a fouled plug that will have the same effect. KKP had a set of nice 9mm wires that looked great. Odds are, most Mark 8 wires will be a special order item.
