As I was driving home from oklahoma last night in the rain my abs and traction control lights both came on, I shut off the car for a few seconds and started it again they went off but came back on a few minutes later, is this a common mk 8? mines a 97LSC
with around 60,000 miles. is it possible something got wet? any help would be appreciated.

I would suspect a sensor in the ABS System is bad. The Traction Control is tied to the ABS in the Gen II Mark VIII. time for a computer code read......

i had the same problem with my 1993, the light is very disturbing... but the fact you loose your traction on those things is the nasty part specially in RAIN.. i,d go to a ford dealer and get a computer code read of the problem , if it's above $400. your better off going to the junk yard and getting it for $50 .. tongue.gif
good luck

Thanks for the info, I dread going to the dealer because they always charge me $70.00 for the diagnostics, and refuse to give me a print out of the trouble codes, then give me incorrect information in an attempt to get me to let them fix it. I wish there was an honest ford dealer in the dallas area. If anyone knows of a good shop in the d\fw area let me know. Thanks

You can buy aftermarket code readers for OBDII systems, however they are more expensive than the cheap readers for EEC-IV. I'm not sure of US pricing but in Canada they start around $230 for just a simple code reading feature, and go up in price to the thousands if you want cartridge/readers that allow you to control some functions and also supply troubleshooting info.
In your case if you've had the code read 3 times at a dealer for $70 each time, it would pay to buy a basic code reader, as you state you'd like to do your repairs yourself.
