View Full Version : Washer fluid sensor install

I've been driving my paid for '95 Mark VIII for about six months now and I'm a very happy camper. It just rolled over 100k and my trip computer says I got 30 mpg on a 400 mile trip last week. Thats at 70mph with the air blowing snowballs on a 102 degree day in east Texas. Not missing my honda or the payments.
I could use some advice on replacing the washer fluid sensor. It looks like I have to take the whole front end off.

On the washer fluid bottle I see the bracket on the filler neck but when I remove the bracket I still don't get enough movement to get the sensor out. I can't see the other screws or what ever is holding the bottle and the sensor is blocked by a crossmember.

It is, unfortunatley, a remove the whole front end deal to replace it... you can't get just the sensor, you have to buy the whole tank. My 95 has the same problem...

If you remove the plastic beauty cover, you CAN disconnect the sensor and short the wires out with a paperclip, as I did, as a temporary measure.

The bumper is fairly easy to get off, and you just have to unhook and bend the power steering cooler out of the way.

Thanks Scott, fyi I do have just the sensor from ford. It looks like your right on the bumper. I'll let you know how that goes...

Okay I've changed the sensor and did not have to take off the bumper!!!!!
You have to take off the beauty piece (the one w/ the headlight doors) and then take out the screw on the washer bottle filler neck bracket.
Then on the bottom of the bottle there are two screws (8mm) facing back towards the radiator. You might pull the two screws (8mm) for the little cooler to have some more room.
Then there is a screw (8mm) inside the lower valence facing down. It's hard to see and you have to reach up through the access holes in the valence.
This will leave the bottle attached to its bracket but the bracket is now loose from the frame.
Pick up on the bottle and you can move it around enough to get at the sensor. Pulling the sensor is a knuckle buster so be careful. I used a 10" ratchet extension to seat the new sensor, it's a tight fit so be really careful.
I got the sensor only from North Hills Lincoln here in Fort Worth TX if you need the part number.
It's cool to start the car and get only the clock on the display.
Hope this helps someone, it should take about 30 minutes once you spot that third screw tucked up in the bumper valence.
