View Full Version : Key Fob programming?

Hey guys, I am trying to program a remote entry fob for my 1993 Mark VIII and can't find the processor behind the glovebox.

According to the instructions I got with the purchase ($10 on EBAY), it says that you have to jump the pins on the entry processor (its behind the glove box) but I cannot tell which one is which!

Does anyone have a shop manual that would explain this procedure???

Thanks!

I have a helms manual for the 95 and will try and find it and post it this evening (It's at home, I'm at work)

I liberated this from another board. http://www.markviii.org/dcforum/DCForumID14/33.html
I assume your having trouble with step 4. locating the plug. It could be grey also.

Step 1: Empty your glovebox. (Trust me... It's entertaining!)

Step 2: With the glove box open all of the way, pull the tabs at the back towards the center of the glovebox so that
the box will open past its factory stopping point. On mine, the one at the top left is clearly visible, and the one on the
right is actually located in the middle of the side.

Step 3: Put the key in the ignition and rotate it to the on position. You do not have to start the car.

Step 4: Behind where the glovebox was, you should see all kinds of control boxes with oodles of wire going here and
there. You should also see a white molex plug that is not connected to anything. In mine it is located at the bottom
left. With the key still in the on position, short the two pins in this connector. It only takes a second, and when you
unshort it, the locks should cycle one time to acknowledge that you are in the setup mode.

Step 5: Press the lock button on the remote that you want to be Number One. The locks should cycle one time.

Step 6: Press the lock button on the remote that you want to be Number Two. The locks should again cycle one time.

Step 7: Press the locb button on the remote that you want to be Number Three. The locks should cycle once more.
Since I don't have three remotes, I was unable to see if you could program a third. However, since the memory for the
seats and mirrors has three settings, I can only assume that it will accept a third remote.

Step 8: Turn off the key, return the glovebox to its rightful place and develop a better filing system for your glovebox
junk. The key fobs should now be programmed. If anyone is wondering why I designate numerical value for the remotes,
the Mark VIII's memory seating is automated with the key fobs, so if fob number two is depressed, the seats go to the
"two" saved setting.

Mike, thank you for those directions. Yes I am having a hard time finding the plug, but I bet I can find it now. Let's hope that the 93's were similar...especially since they didn't have the memory profile transmitter like later models (the one with the switch on the back)

Off to the glovebox--which is clean as a whistle after I dumped the contents out looking for the plug.

Thanks!

I can't find that molex plug anywhere inside! Everything is plugged into something else...and I don't plan on shorting out every plug until I find the right one.

Yeeesh...anyone with a 1st Gen Mark VIII that could possibly figure this out????

send me and email.
I don't live far from Houston and I'd be glad to take a look in there and help you figure it out.

Hmmm maybe I should just leave it alone and enter it in bracket racing.

I got it taken care of. Thank you for your offer though.

Someone else with a 1993 told me where the plug was because the cars without the Memory Profile System had them in a different place. It is under the glove box between the plastic cover and the glove box hinge.

The transmitters I bought are not the right ones for the car. Anyone with a late model Ford need one, or two??? http://www.lincolnsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif Live and learn.

Glad you got sorted out...
Live and learn is the motto over at E-bay.

So, do you hit any of the "street spots" in houston. It's about all there is left to do until the track opens back up in the spring.

E-mail me and maybe we could hook up for some urban assault. I've been doing really well out on/at/around westiemer on the weekends. Those 5.0's dont laugh for long...
*wicked grin*

have a great day and enjoy your ride.

Kindest Regards
Tom
