I drove by the local used car lot today and they have a niiice, 98LSC Lincoln Mark VIII, its a pearl white color from what I could see in the dark, and with all the options it has, Kelly Blue Book says 16K for it. It has 65k miles on it, and looks in good almost excellent condition. Their asking 13k for it, so I think I might go later today to check it out. Thats the 290hp motor right, so it would be like an early rendition of the Maurader which I just can't afford . So I think I'm gonna peep it out, to see whats realy wrong with it. Anything that I should look for that I wouldn't notice right away? Glad to be a part of the site

Kelly says 16k, but that's the dealer retail price. No one ever pays that, especially for a car like the Mark VIII...a car that holds its value as well as stock in Enron. smile.gif
According to Edmunds.com that car is worth around $16k also...but trade in cost is about 12k. 13k is a fair price if it has no flaws what-so-ever, but I would say its actually a good deal at 12k.
Check for clear headlights, clear sideview mirrors, working HID headlamp bulbs, clean interior, little or no wear on the seats, level air suspension, and any mechanical/body issues that you would expect with any car.
Best of luck from another person who quotes Homer Simpson in his signature. ;)

In today's market, shoot for Loan Value. Then negotiate from there. Banks use NADA book. Kelly reads some what higher in it's values. Dealers use both depending on whether you are trading in or are buying. I usually go there with both books. Some times it really impresses the hell out of them. They are less likely to B.S. you.

Yeah I noticed the rear suspension sagging a little bit, but other words that was what I could see from the test drive on Saturday. Very impressed with this car, but why did they ever stop making it!! Did the LS replace the Mark VIII, thats too bad if it did, I wasn't as impressed with the LS as I was with the VIII. How much for the 'shocks' for the rear if I replace them, I doubt they'll replace them under warranty because their not completely out. The driver side mirror has a seal leak and holds water in it, but that was about it. I was impressed with it, no doubt. I just hope they can give me a deal on it.

Have a different mechanic check the car out. Spray soapy water on the rear airbags to see if they are leaking. Also check the rear shocks for leaks and try to get them replaced along with the mirror BEFORE you buy the car!
The Mark VIII is a great car, but it had no market. The LS is a decent alternative, but it didn't kill the Mark. That was the duty of the Navigator and every other luxury SUV.

I see, alright I'll see what I can do, thanks for the advice. Does this car raise when the car is started and lower when off? I thought I was seeing things but when I returned in the house after warming her up, the front end looked taller.

yes the car raises when you turn it on and lowers when you turn it off.
13k seems like a good price, but it's all in condition. I paid 14.5k for my '97 last year this time, with 62k.

Well the condition is in so good shape and I absolutley love this car. I talked him down $1500 and then still offered me 6%, too good to turn down. When I was test driving this car Monday, there were people showing up whle I was driving it that wanted it, glad I picked it up.
