The wood trim in my wife's '96 Mark had started to loose the resin coating. It was peeling and lifting off.
So, I waited until a real hot day and carefully peeled off the rest of it (they came off in a complete strip) and discovered some real nice walnut veneer under it.
I masked the entire door and gently sanded the veneer smooth and relieved the sharp edges with some 320 and 400 sand paper. Can't get heavy handed here as this veneer is only about 1/64th in thick. Don't even think of using a power sander.
Then I applied about 6-8 THIN coats of spray varnish (you can also use Clear Krylon).
Let it dry a bit in bewteen coats.
Now it looks better than the original resin coating, although you need to be more careful with it as it will get damaged and scratched a lot easier.
