I Own a 96 Lincoln Mark VIII (280hp). A lot of guys at my school are teasing me "You're driving an old mans car" even though 95% of them don't even know what a lincoln Mark VIII is and how it looks like! I love this car! But i have been flooring it about once or twice a day and i was wondering if there is going to be some permanent damage to the engine or transmition? I'm not quite sure if the car was designed to race. I was also wondering what the correct 0-60 specs are! Some scources say 7.2 some 7.9 some below 7 sec!? They think that their' "stock" honda civic's ex can outrace me! Can you believe those guys ! I'm going to prove them wrong but i'm afraid that my car wasn't build for speed! If have raced your car or modified it please let me know if you had some problems later!

You can hold your Mark VIII's throttle wide open for hours at a time for hundreds of thousands of miles. In stock form, the motor is designed to upshift at a safe RPM that will never do powertrain or drivetrain damage. Hard sprints will test weak, worn, hi mile AODE transmission clutches, though. The VIII's run low 7's and mid 15's in the 1/4 mile, similar to a Mustang GT automatic (wow!) or a 5.9L Jeep Grand Cherokee (yuck). The VIII runs harder in the upper speed ranges and 0-60 isn't it's forte'. There are very few small cars that can match it. Don't race a Northstar Seville in a straight line (high 14's).

Thanks for the information.
I will list a couple of cars that i'm going to race! Can you tell me which ones i have a chance against and which ones i shouldn't even bother (because I'll lose)
Honda Civic Ex and Si
Acura Integra
Acura 3.2 CL / Cl type S
BMW 5 series (excluding the M5)
BMW 3 series (excluding the M3)
So you're saying Seville is faster?(Damn Cadillac).

Hasperde, you'll take them all except for a BMW 540i. The Integra Type-R has been known as a 14sec car in the 1/4, but the driver will really have to beat on it to get there.
Put the pedal to the metal...you're in a Lincoln!

Dont worry about any of those punks. I have a 93 MARKVIII with a superchip, flowmasters modified air box, and no factory mustangs and maybe even a couple of (older vettes) dont want to fool with me. First thing you need to get is a superchip part#1100. Makes a big difference, congratulations on buying the best Lincoln ever built.
