Hi Everyone,
I started off in this forum with the intention of buying a '02 LS. Well, that changed to a late model Mark VIII.
I am picking up a Silver Frost '98 LSC with light gray interior with 39K miles tomorrow!!
WELL taken care of with a print out of all service work performed, new 80K mile Michelins, etc.
Nice car.
Do you guys recommend me buying an extended warranty to 100K on this car?
I was thinking that it would be a good idea.
Isn't the rear end gear ratio 3.27 on the LSC?
Thanks,
Bob Turner

Congrats on becoming a Mark owner, Bob - sounds like a beauty!
I'd go for the warranty if you can, and yes, you'll have 3.27's in an LSC :D

Very nice choice! The LS is a great car, but a used Mark VIII is still more bang in a sleeker package. 1998 is truly the last of the last great American coupes. :( smile.gif :(
If you have a good local mechanic or are pretty good with tools I would bypass the warranty. When we bought our 1993 Mark in 1998, we got the warranty. The 1993 model had a transmission problem, so it was worthwhile. They rebuilt it and the warranty paid for itself. You do NOT have that problem with the 1998 model.
And Lincoln Mercury service departments suck, they never fixed the tranny right and always were a pain to deal with. A lot of things were NOT covered in the warranty (air suspension) that I would expect to.
READ the fine print. I hate taking cars there just because of the warranty. There is no free "Lincoln Commitment" loaner car after 5 years, and the warranty has a pretty large deductible ($100?)...
The air suspension, electronic gadgets, etc are not that complicated (look at all these new cars with Nav systems) and most shops use ALLDATA to quickly diagnose problems.
My advice, get the LSC, a set of Ford shop manuals and pocket the warranty money for a rainy day. smile.gif

Thanks- Da-Kat, pro-five, and Mike98LSC.
I will pick up the car later this week. I completed a loan through Peoplefirst.com and now have to wait for the check to clear before picking it up.
The sellers also own a 1 year old Town Car and a NEW Aviator, so I know that it has been well taken care of. I have a full set of dealer service records from the seller.
pro-five-oh,
Regarding the warranty, I may go for it but still not sure. The transmission was replaced on this car under warranty 6,000 miles ago..... I do have connections here to get a good deal on a trans if I need to.
I like the color scheme as well. I am planning on tinting the windows as soon as I get it. It will be a shock to transition from an '87 Corvette conv to this car!!!
