hey,im new to the site. im thinkin about getting a mark VIII. basicly what i want is a mustang 5-speed with a torqey V8 but insurance will eat me alive if i do that, so ive looked into alternate choices. i began lookin at the ford thunderbirds. and i just happened to b lookin at tccoa and noticed some things about the mark and yea.. now im here. well basicly what i want is a car that sounds good and has lots of torque. i have a 95 ford probe 4 cyl. at the moment and it doesnt come close to satisfying what i want. so.. do u think a mark VIII would safice?
thanks in advance

Mark VIII certainly will have a lot more hp and torque than your 4 banger probe. As for your insurance, if it is full coverage, probably isn't going to much better on a Mark VIII. Check insurace quotes online at http://progressive.com. Also keep in mind lincoln mark's are very expensive to maintain. Good Luck!! smile.gif

A Mark VIII will certainly fit the bill, you will blow away many performance cars and shame their owners...Corvettes, Saleen Mustangs, countless Hondas have been shocked to see my black 93 Mark blow them away...just make sure you don't kill yourself in the process! ;)
The Mark's have a similar motor to the 1996 Mustang Cobra: it is kind of expensive to repair (compared to a 5.0, not compared to a BMW) so make sure you find one that has been well maintained. Air suspension is really cool, but parts will need to be replaced more frequently than a coil spring suspension. I love air suspension so the cost is not a big deal.
Other than that, the car is basically a cross between a Thunderbird and a Cobra. Parts are plentiful and pretty cheap. Good luck!

sweet, so its a good car just to get around in but when needed it has alot of power.. sweeet. ok how hard is it to light em up from a stand still, and how hard to chip/bark 2nd.. oo and what are the things that make it hard to keep maintained
thanks alot!

Not very hard at all. Some of them had traction control, but there's a button on the dash to turn it off. Just powerbrake a little and it'll smoke 'em.
If you are used to a 4-banger Probe, the Mark will be scary fast. For real, you gotta be careful. smile.gif

It's nice to be able to own both if you could. The mark is a comfortable fast, good handling cruiser than can beat a lot of what is out there.
And whatever i can't beat, outhandle or outbreak, i go home and get my Mustang and do. Of course, the stang is not stock, so it's an unfair comparison.
