Hello,
Are there any other options other than dealer whole assembly replacement for an inoperable low beam headlamp on a '96 LSC?

I would call local junkyards but they aren't gonna be very cheap either. I've seen them show up on Ebay too...
Your best bet is to talk to a Mark VII guy named Paul Becker. He's at "svpu.com" and got me a sweet deal on headlights for my Cougar. Ford wanted $230 for each light and he got them for about $100. I'd strongly recommend him, if you need to replace that part.

New HID headlights exceed the value of the Mark VIII, in some cases. I heard there was a non-HID coversion kit for later VIII's being sold, but I dunno where. HID's are great for a new 3 yr lease. Everyone needs that look I suppose. In a used older car, they really suck.

You should be able to get the bulbs from Dan Newman at Five Star Ford. If I remember right they're about $80.
