Exterior lights okay if on?

My '95's message center status check always says "exterior lights okay if on" weather the lights are on or not, and weather the auto lamp switch is on or not.
Is this normal?

Yes.
I think the message center lighting status check is a joke that ford (OOPS) Lincoln has been playing on us. To me they are saying turn them on, get out and look, if they're on, they're OK. I don't think the system knows if they're on or off. Best thing to do once a month go thru all the lights and blinkers with a friend or significant other giving you a "thumb status".
