HELP! My 96 Mark VIII LSC's HID headlamps are burning dim. I was told that unlike 97 and 98 the whole assembly had to be replaced at retail $609.90 per side versus the retail price of $170 per side for 97 and 98 models. Is this the only alternative, or can the 97,98 components such as the ballast be used to replace the lamps. I have found some prices cheaper than $609.90 per side but that still involves replacing the whole assembly. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Thanks DaKat,

I did find the lights at $539.99 per sid at www.fordpartsnetwork.com. (http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com.) I did find a store to sell them to me for $402.00 per side. I will report back any new info I find and in the meantime maybe someone has more ideas. Thanks

There is another way, although it is a horrible thought;replace with the (ouch!)regular headlight setup.
Last ditch effort at best http://www.lincolnsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Relax, the 97/98 parts will work fine in your car. There are slight differences in the connectors and the length of the wires, but the bulbs and ballasts are exactly the same. If you can cut and solder wires, this is very easy to fix. Just order the parts for a 97. You need to figure out if the problem is the ballast or the bulb. You can do this by swapping the ballast from one side to the other and seeing which bulb is dim. The ballast wholesales for around $140 and the bulb for about $96.

I haven't seen any TSBs on this but here is a suggestion for those still under warranty -next time you take your Mark in for service, tell the dealer the lights seem dimmer. They will check it out, probably adjust the lights and it will register the complaint as a warranty item so you'll have something to fall back on if the lights go dim after warranty. Could save many $ down the road. Just a suggestion.
