First I know that this is a TC question but you guys would know this one. What is the difference between mark7 5.0 and TC 5.0 are
the parts interchangeable or what? Also is there a common problem with these motors like
oil leaks from the sending unit you know stuff like that i really need the help from all the Mark 7 guys on this board that know this stuff....

If your motor is leaking oil it is probably due to a very, very common problem that Ford dealers are keenly aware of. Underneath the PCV valve there is a mesh screen filter that plugs solid with gum after about 80K miles. The normal engine blowby has nowhere to go and will squeeze oil out of every seal, causing oil loss from big leaks. The PCV valve is on the lower intake manifold between the firewall and upper intake. It is an SOB to access, but you can. Buy a new PCV valve, retaining grommit and filter screen at the dealer and you'll see what you need to replace. The filter screen must be yanked out using pointed nose pliers or some hooked tool to gouge into the screen. They stick and don't want to dislodge sometimes. The oil sending unit on the 5.0L is usually reliable and it sits just in front of the oil filter. As for parts interchangeability between a Mark VII HO and TC std 5.0L, it varies. Your best bet to identifying interchangability is to beg a dealer for part #'s or sitting at your PC, go to www.carparts.com. (http://www.carparts.com.) You can enter the Mark VII and print a list of all replacement parts for the motor by category. Then, simply do the same thing for your Town Car. These two separate listings allow you to compare part#'s for every part they sell by model, which is a bunch. This works well for me, since I have an '86 Mustang 5.0L parted out and an '88 Mark VII daily driver. Good Luck

Since I basically had a TC 5.0 in my 1988 Cougar, here is the short of it. The heads, upper intake, throttle body, camshaft, valve covers, exhaust headers, EEC-IV computer, fuel injectors, and the fuel injector wiring harness are different.
Because of the upper intake location, the TC might be a little different from my Cougar. Yet, I know a guy with a Crown Vic that was successfully converted to "High Output" status.
Eric Dess has a great non-HO to 5.0 HO website at "www.coolcats.net." He shows in detail how to swap the parts, and it can be done in one weekend. He recommends getting a new MAP sensor, which is not necessary. Trust me, I went from 155hp to 225hp and did it with parts from a 1991 Mustang http://www.lincolnsonline.com/ubb/wink.gif

The filter screen sits directly under the PCV valve. I removed mine (and didn't install a new one) 60,000 miles ago and haven't had a problem.

jack, I am still very jealous of your car. Let me know if it becomes too much for you to deal with (lol). Like b4 says, the screen gizmo is directly under the PCV and grommit. Another problem not mentioned is the rubber grommits harden and shrink with age, so they don't hold the PCV valve in well when they're old. Removing the screen permanently is another solution, but I dunno...your PCV system might clog passages in the upper intake eventually and require Drano or an enima. On your car with 40K miles, I wouldn't do it. On mine with 220K+, I'd toss the filter like b4 did.

thank guys for the help...i do have the manual now...so i am semi dangerous--
this car really was driven some sundays, a short distance to church-(by a little ole lady--not quite so old...but retired for several years)------the first thing i did was belts, hoses, fluids, tune up etc....-
anyone should do that with a car of this type.--but looking at my reciept --pcv valve was not done.....---and of course the first thing i did with this car was drive it....run some good gas through it and put a 1000 or so miles on it......i figured stuff should start showing up on it if it was going to!!!--and now i have put about 3000 on it and sure enough--looks like i got an oil leak------stands to reason....these cars just cannot sit, sit, start em up and drive them a half mile once or twice a month and keep the gaskets, etc in any kind of shape...(and the precise reason i didnt put any synthetic oil in it) ...........so my deal is......find out anything like this that is tenitive and going to crap out anyway. and fix it now.......before i get this car on the road and am a 1000 miles away from home........
by the way i had to add a quart a couple of weeks ago....they really sent me through the roof....so i knew something was going on...frankly i am glad it is a leak rather than something more serious.
and i am grateful for your help....how bad does it piss me off to pay somebody a bunch of money and hour to scratch their head??? know what i mean?-----so tuesday i will go get the stuff.....and have my regular guys do the deal..............have nice holiday(safe) guys....and thanks again......jack
