i just happened acress this website...WOW!!
i can't belive it. i have been a huge fan of theses cars for years. i own 3 mark VII's now. i had a question though. does anyon know if the factory abs master cylinder assy can be replaced witha conventional assy or not. if that is not possible i would love to find a rebuild kit or even an good place to buy one. 2 of my 3 cars are having brake problems with these units.

thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to the board.

The answer to your question is....YES.

You can either convert and elimanate the ABS system to conventional brakes useing SVO Parts, OR you can get new master cylinders (ABS Pump Motor and stuff) from a place called Prior Remanufacturing. Their site is

http://www.priorreman.com/

Have Fun.

You can search in 3 places for this information.

www.lincolnsonline.com (http://www.lincolnsonline.com) (This message forum)
www.peak-net.com/lsc/lsc.nsf (http://www.peak-net.com/lsc/lsc.nsf) (The peak board is a Huge, searchable database with a whole bunch of Information.

www.fordvschevy.com (http://www.fordvschevy.com) (The forum you wnat over there is the Hot Rod Lincoln board).

People have done this conversion, and some Have been kind enough to write about thier trials and tribulations during the conversion.

Happy Hunting.

The SVO parts being referred to is the brake system used on the '84-'86 Mustang SVO. Basically, it was the early pre-ABS Continental/Mark VII system with a different proportioning valve and different master cylinder. The conversion is fairly complex because lots of custom bent brake lines in the engine compartment are involved and the fitment of the Hydroboost power assist unit that's driven off the P/S system. The correct parts can be found on an '82-'85 non-ABS Continental or Mark VII. I would recommend repairing the ABS rather than trying to install the earlier non-ABS system.

Don't change your braking system! I was a Ford-Lincoln tech for 15 years. Its a good system and pretty easy to fix. Whats the problem? Hard brake pedal? Does the pump run whenever you step on the brake?

Hey BLUECOLLAR,

I've got a problem (multiple problems now) with my ABS.

1. ANTI-LOCK light is lit. I followed the procedures and found that i need to "service or replace" a ciciut 514? WTF Does that mean?

2.Accumulator pump runs every2 or 3 rd press on the brakes. IS it seals, or is the accumulator going south on me?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Hey 90lscdrvr, if it was the accumulater, the pump would come on every time you hit the brakes. Is the ABS light your only problem?...or is the "red" brake light on? (does the red light work?)I don't have a schematic for the brake system(I only have suspension schematics)What does the code refer too? (ex.front sensor circuit or what) Its probably a wheel sensor but don't know for sure without the book. REMEMBER: This vehicle kinda has 2 systems in one. You can have great "regular" brakes(hyd. pump, pres. switches)but have an "anti-lock problem. It sounds like you just have an ABS problem. I really need to know alot more about your problem before I can give any kind of advice.
Did it start after a brake job was done?....just outa the blue?

Circut 514 is a yellow/red stripe wire going to your right front brake sensor.

Uhhh Yeah, Uhhh, DARN THESE BIFOCALS.....

It's Circut 512. NOT 514.

FLI Pin 1 Continuity to Ground = Service or replace Circut 512.

Sorry. Any Ideas???

Lscdriver, If i'm not mistaken, thats the reservoir circuit. You sure you have enough fluid? You might have a bad sensor.

Well, yes and no. Yes it's the connector that attatches to the FLI, but it's the Connector, not the sensor that has ground connectivity. So, that leads me to beleive that I have a wire somewhere within the 65 miles of wire in this car, that has grounded itself.

I'm goin to "jump" it out of the harness and see if that does the trick, if so, then problem solved. If not, I'm sure I'll see a few more greys pop up onto this hollow head of mine.
