For some reason my antenna won't go up. It makes a noise like it's going up, but it only moves about half an inch. Is the motor going bad, or something off track?

Sounds like either the gears in the antenna OR the gears in the mast are stripped. You can replace this antenna with a good one from a parts store ($30-50) or take apart the old antenna and see what the problem is.

I bet your mast is broken. Someone else had this problem and posted it about a week ago.

Good luck dude!

Well one last ditch attempt before you switch it out try spraying it down really good with wd40. My 89 mercedes has a power antenna that would once in awhile decide to not work at all and you could hear the motor running in the trunk and it would not stop. So I sprayed it down real good and kept on messing with the switch trying to gain an inch back and forth and eventually it would work. Couldn't hurt to try I would think.

I have the same problem with mine, except when I hit the up button it went up,..right off the car. I hear they make a mast replacement that is cheaper that the whole antenna. Just sitck the round white plastic gear rope in while someone hits the down button until it sucks the antenna all the way in. Supposelly it should work. I will let you know what I do to mine...

The mast replacement is no longer available from the Dealer... a discontinued item. I use to have a Vette and I have a new antenna for it I never installed.. maybe.....

I finally tore open my trunk and found that pro was right, my mast was broken. I went to a parts store and I found a mast replacement part, but it was for Lincolns from 92-. I would think that would work. Does any know?

Hmm, it's worth trying. I would suggest taking the broken mast with whatever teeth are in the motor and measuring the length of it. From there you might find an aftermarket one that will work.

Good luck! smile.gif
