The LS engines use COP - Coil on Plug ignition. That is a V6 had 6 coils and a V8 has 8 little coils. There are no spark plug wires. Most Ford engines now use COP, even my 4.6L SOHC Mustang GT engine has COP.

You didn't say if you have a V6 or a V8, but on the V6 you have to remove the intake manifold to get to the plugs.

The COP's and plugs are hidden below engine covers.

Be careful if you change the plugs yourself as the LS engines have aluminum heads. I recommend that you remove the coils, spray some penetrating oil on the base of the plugs and then let it sit for a several hours.

NEVER change the plugs with the engine warm or hot, it must be COLD!

When you put the new plugs in DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THEM, you can damage the threads and have a plug blow out of the head. Make sure you use the recommended torque which is very low, IIRC something like 10 ft lb.

Finally, I highly recommend you get a LS service manual, it will give you instructions as well as the proper torque for both the plugs and the manifold bolts (if you have a V6). They are available new from Helm, Inc. CD or paper, you can find Helm by doing a Google search. Or you can check e-bay for used CD's or print manuals.

Thanks for the response. I have the lS V8. So you are saying that I must remove the intake cover on top. When I do this will i be able to see any wires or did you say that their are no longer any spark plug wires to remove. if you can give me any other information it would be much appreceated. Also where can I get a service manual for the Lincoln LS V8 at the cheapest price. I actually prefer the CD.

You DO NOT have to remove the intake manifold to change the plugs on a LS V8. You will have to remove the air intake hose though.

The plugs and coils are under the rectangular cover in the center of the cam covers.

Helm's website for servcice CD's or manuals is: http://www.helminc.com/helm/welcome_retail_fct.asp?Style=&mscsid=5X2TMW7NV1PV9GDLPRPBTTSS816D15A5

Again, if you have never changed plugs on an aluminum head, be very careful and follow all the instructions in the manual and only change them when the engine is cold.

I changed the plugs on the 3.0 v6 and you have to remove the plastic cover and the intake manifold to get to the plugs on the passenger side .After getting the manifold off two wired coming off of the intake manifold some sensor were all burnt up because ford was to cheap to put some kind of heat sleeve over the wires .I had to re solder them and put a thick plastic sleeve over the wires to prevent this from happpening again .Also be very carful because the wiring especially the ones going to the on plug coil seem very, very delicate and sound like they want to snap when your moving them .Also mark or draw a diagram because the bolts you remove holding the intake manifold are different lengths and if you mix them up your screwed. hope this is helpful to someone and also I didn't have a manual cause I couldn't get one my brother said I was crazy to do it without but hey i was a mechanic for 3 years the I got a unionized job so I work so hard all day ! HA Ha :D
