I recently Bought a 5spd. LS. I would have gottne the 8 cyl. but as all of you already know you cant get the manual with that. I have no complaints with th car except for the lack of power with the 6cyl. Is there anyone that has supercharged there 6cyl yet or turbo charged one yet. I'd like to put twin turbos with intercoolers on mine Or supercharge if necessary. The only problem is finding parts that are compatable with this engine. I'd be willing to be the first to try it if I could find the right parts. The only other problem I see is, How much torque can the 5sp handel safely!

Have you thought about the exhaust sustem? I pilfered this from a post on Blue Oval News.

Tmsnake1,
Welcome aboard. We all have our eyes peeled for LS aftermarket parts. I for one hope it becomes an M5 beater. That's a tall order if you've seen the new M5. I'd let the aftermarket experiment with the car for a while. Noone has a good understanding yet of piston or reciprocating assy durability with forced induction. Exhaust and tires are obvious areas where immediate upgrades can be made.

There are rumors of Duratec V6 HP increases to come in 2 stages.
1. 2 step varaible intake valve timing. This is used in the Jag V6 version right now. May see in Taurus / LS in 2001 or 2002
2. Infinately variable valve timing. Jag in 2001 or 2002, LS is 2003 or 2004?
You could see if the aftermarket tuners have access to the Jag heads or possibly you could get the engine from a S-type 3.0 that has been wrecked.

Gee 351CJ, you are getting some interesting rumors! Is the Duratec V6 SOHC in the Lincoln similar to the Taurus optional motor? That is a very popular motor and aftermarket should respond soon. I heard the V8 SHO was being discontinued and that should help the V6 popularity for performance.

LACman: You can take my information with a grain of salt as I'm a nobody with no secret information. However, I'm good at compiling bit's & pieces of info. from several sources and making some sense out of it.
First, the Lincoln V6 is very similar to the Duratec 3.0 L 24V in the Taurus / Sable.
The main differences are:
1. higher compression ratio, 10.5:1 requiring 91 octane gas.
2. Different intake manifold
3. True dual exhaust system.
All this gives the LS V6 210 HP & 205 ft lb v.s 200/200 in Taurus (or 185 HP in 99's)
The differences in the Jag V6
1. different heads with 2 step variable valve timing & 10.5 compression ratio.
2. 3 stage resonant intake manifold.
3. Dual exhaust and I belive different exhaust manifolds.
These changes give the Jag version 240HP
There have been several mentions in various car rags and syndicated auto columnist's about more Duratec HP. This is backed up by some of the stuff Blue Oval News has published on Ford (Jag) engineering budgets.
From what I can tell don't expect a big HP jump in the LS as the Jag has to have more HP because of marketing. I'd look for 215 HP in Taurus and 225 in the LS in 2001 or 2002. The Duratec is also planned for use in the 2003 Mustang which will be based on the DEW98 platform (used in LS, S-type & 2001 T-Bird).

One more thing Lscman, Some Ford exec was interviewed in one of the rags, may have been autoweek and was asked about the SHO V8. The Ford guy said they were looking at other applications for it to get more payback on the engineering and production investments. They were looking at a RWD application. This sure sounds like DEW98. On the down side I've also heard the SHO V8 is expensive to make which may ultimately end up killing it. What a shame!
