My 1995 Continental gives me an intermittant "Door Ajar" message. Whenever it appears, the interior lights will stay on until the car is in motion, then they fade out. When I come to a stop...HELLO!!! It is really annoying at night. Sometimes the problem lasts for weeks and just goes away. Any ideas?

If the car thinks the door is ajar, it's probably a bad or misadjusted door sensing switch. They are in the door jamb near the latch. With one door open, push on the button and watch the overhead light and door ajar light go out. It could be a loose wire, but I doubt it.

Yeah, I have heard of Mark VIII's doing that too. You might have to clean the door contacts (the plunger thingie) with electrical contact cleaner. I think it comes in a spray can from Radio Shack, about $8. It is worth a shot.

Hmm...WD-40 would work too? I'll have to remember that...

I'll try the WD-40 trick. It seems as though the problem comes when the humidity rises, so the WD solution makes sense since it is supposed to displace moisture. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks!

I tried the WD-40 quick fix on the door ajar problem and it was just that. It was quick and it fixed the problem! Is there ANYTHING WD-40 can't do? http://www.lincolnsonline.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Seriously...it really worked. I just sprayed each of the door latches, closed and opened the doors a few times and the problem went away. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the coolest!
