View Full Version : Best tech manual for TC
knot trying

With the economy being what it is and having one in college and more on the way, I'm going to try to keep the 92 TC running a few years longer than originally planned.
I could use some suggestions for a good tech manual to assist with any shade tree repairs that I end up having to make.
Thanks.

There is only one choice for modern cars like the TC, the factory manual. You can buy it from Helms on their website (http://www.helminc.com/) and you can often buy one from Ebay.com. I have one for the 92 TC and another for the 92 Mark VII that I bought from Ebay and a board user respectively. You'll pay $40 to $100 but it's the best money you will spend, particularly the first time you don't have to go to a mechanic.

You can also pick up a Helms/Ford cd on ebay for your specific model year. $20-$30

Depending on the year, there may be several manuals needed. I have a '95 TC and had to purchase both a factory service manual and an electrical/wiring manual. Unfortunately I didn't know that some of the most important info is not included in *either* of these -- you ALSO need a Powertrain Diagnosis Manual.
I also picked up a Haines service manual. It covers a range of years but has valuable basic tips. The factory manuals from Helm are great but assume you are a pro and skip important basics. The Haines manual can help fill in the gaps, plus provide valuable tips from the shadetree mechanics point of view, like how to diagnose a certain problem without using the factory specialty tool called for in the service manual.

don't know about you guys but I have looked high and low for manuals and the best one for the buck is the "CHILTON's FORD CROWN VICTORIA/MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 1989-93 REPAIR MANUAL" this thing has it all I never use anything else but this much better than any of those other bullshit books that try to include all lincons from 83 on up in the same book. This is only 1989 5.0's and 4.6's up to 93 it has it all vacuum and wiring diagrams and it only cost like 10 dollars if you can find a helms cheap get it but if your like me and cant then get this book it's like the bible of towncars..........

Helms is the #1 choice for manuals, no exception. They have been making the original professional factory shop manuals for GM and Ford forever. All dealerships use them.

Helms is #1 there is no denying that but if you are like me and could not find one on ebay or doesn't want to drop 100 for a new one then try the chilton book it is perfect for all that will come up with a tc and the shade tree machanic.I got mine at a half price book store new for $3.84 you can't beat that one bye..

The new Chilton's are better, and I did the same thing as BIG...bought some from 1/2 Price Books for about $4 each. It's a good start and many of the diagrams are the same as the Ford manuals.
But, when you need to get serious with diagnosis and removal/assembly the Chilton's come up short. Like everything else in this world, you get what ya pay for...
