Would somebody be able to tell me the part number for the 10 disc cd changer which I think is manufactured by sony for the 1993 lincoln Towncar fitted with ford/jbl premium sound system with the changer mounted in the trunk and activated by buttons on the header unit in the vehicle and plugged into the existing harness with no modifications in the trunk? I believe that there is a different unit and part number for later models of towncars after 1993? and the later models do not fit or are not backward compatible.

The radios changed in '95 and again in '98. The JBL option was gone after '97 (replaced with an Alipine system).
I don't think these are made by Sony. I believe they are made by Mobile Pro. You used to be able to get a Ford OEM CD changer from Crutchfield:
http://crutchfield.com/S-ozPS4TV2nQT/cgi-bin/prodsearch.asp?s=0&g=65500&est=&search=factory+CD+changer
But for some reason they don't show a factory CD changer for Ford anymore. They do, however, have a cable adapter fof $49.95 that will allow you to use a Mobile Pro CD changer in a Lincoln. Unfortunately this may only be for 1995 and newer models.
Come to think of it, I don't recall *any* CD players being available in a Town Car prior to 1995!

Sony 10 disk CD players were used in TCs from at least 92 on. Ebay recently sold one for $102. The listing (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1330708320&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=1013478341&indexURL=0&rd=1)has some details on what models fit what. It says that it fits 95-97 but the older TCs had almost identical units.

Yes I saw this unit on ebay and that is why I am wondering if the part numbers will fit my signature series 93 tc with ford/jbl premium sound system.I am in Melbourne Australia so that is why I need to know if it will plug into my existing harness before I bid for the item. Can anyone confirm the correct part number for the 93 TC?

In that case it looks like you will have to get a used factory unit. Anything from the aftermarket will only fit the newer radios.
The key to getting the right part is what year it came out of. If I recall correctly, the premium radios in the older models were as follows:
-- '90 -'91 Older style (late 80s) small-chassis radio with small buttons and knobs, no CD option
-- '92 -'94 Newer style, still small chassis but with larger buttons and CD changer option
-- '95-'97 All new large-chassis radio with DSP and CD changer option
-- '98-Up All new radio, no JBL
That means anything from '92 -'94 is guaranteed to work with your car. '95 - '97 *might* work but you will have to confirm this.
*Edit* I checked the auction, this changer was for '95 -'97 models only. Funny, I had a '97 TC Sig with Premium sound and mine came with a 6-CD changer! I've never seen a 10-disc unit. Then again, mine was dealer installed and a 10-disc unit could have come from the factory.
You need to look for a unit out of a '92 -'94 vehicle.

My 92 could have had the 10 CD changer but didn't. My 97 does have the Sony derived 10 CD changer. I should be getting a 97 Factory Electrical manual in mail pretty soon (from Ebay) and then I can compare it against the schematics on the 92.
I am pretty sure there is a supplier with a link on this site that sells 6 CD units that plug in and work with the factory radios and I believe they have 10 CD units also. I'll let you check the links section. If not use "Google.com" to search for something like "Factory Ford CD" and see what you get.
One source of good information is the dealer (Ford or Lincoln Mercury they have the same database available). You can usually get most TC parts at the Ford dealer also since most are the same as the Crown Vic. Just ask what part number you need for a 92 CD changer.

Well I have found out that the jbl sound system was an optional extra and the cd changer was an optional extra only on the signature series 1993 TC and the part numbers for the amps in the trunk are
F2VF-19B176-AA
F2VF-18L807-AA
The plug is waiting there for a male plug from the 10 cd stacker.I am going to try and add a scanned picture of my sound system from the lincoln instruction book. What do you all think?

Here is the part number for the 1990-1994 cd changer F4VY-18D806A
The part number for the 1995-1997 is F5VY-18D806A
Its amazing what you can find out on the web even if I am in Australia.
Does everyone know about fordpartsonline.com
I rang from Australia to
Peyton Cramer Lincoln Mercury
20460 Hawthorne Boulevard
Torrance, CA 90503
Tel: (310) 370-6311
Fax: (310) 371-4911
they directed me to
Zarb's Electronics
1750 California #117
Coronoa, CA 91719 909-279-0485 who do all the service/refurbished units for ford, but they do not have anymore for sale for my model. They say they can supply a 6 cd stacker made by clarion that should fit for $350.
So now I am going to chase up this original model number F4VY-18D806A. If anyone knows where I can obtain this from please let me know.

Try http://www.car-part.com/ and select your year, model and Radio/CD. I saw a couple starting at $150. You may want to get the radio with it if they have one with a CD button. Be careful, the radios of this vintage are known to have failures when they get old. Some guy on Ebay was selling NOS (new old stock) radios recently. Maybe you don't need the radio with CD button but you might.
Given that you have a single Din opening, you could go with an Alpine or similar that has the CD in the radio. It's kind of nice to be able to change the CD while on the road, even though the 10 CD factory unit holds a lot. With the Alpine you can still get a 6 cd changer that is probably small enough to fit in your glove box. On my 92 TC I had an Alpine for awhile directly connected to the harness and the factory amps and speakers. It worked great.
