Just got an 03 Aviator and am disappointed with the lack of aftermarket modifications for it. Does anyone make a cold intake system or throttle body kit for these trucks? I assumed they would be readily available considering it is a 4.6 Ford engine.

No one makes a cold air kit, but after writing this article, I wonder how good any cold air kit can be:

Here's my beef: look at that bottom picture in the article.

If someone makes a cold air kit, it would HAVE to replace the tube between the throttlebody and the mass-air meter to be of any worth. With out an Aviator specific tube, it won't net any power over my tech article.

And learning from the Cobra Mustang (which this motor comes from)you will do not gain any power with a cold air kit over the stock unit when you:

1. drill out the airbox and remove any silencer tubes
2. install a K&N filter into the stock location

Mustangs almost never net a significant gain from a throttlebody on a stock motor, as the loss of torque negates any increase in HP. It gets even worse when you throw in an automatic transmission and an extra 1000lbs or so.

But yeah, I still wish there was more Aviator tuning around. :(

I just replaced my 99 Expedition with the Aviator and had a K&N cold air system and throttle body kit along with an exhaust and the cold air system made a NOTICEABLE difference as did the throttle body kit.Just hoping someone comes out with something.
