Hey, i hate to dis on lincoln like this. Didnt lincoln make a blackwood for a year, and it fluked. Then didnt they make this aviator, and it fluked. I heard production was seized on the aviator just like the blackwood.

The Aviator is selling well now, and they are making it for at least 3 more years.

The Blackwood was a joke, however. No promotion, no interest, it flopped. :(

Myself and a couple of redneck drinkin' buddies used to sit around and joke about a "Gentleman's pickup truck" back in the late '70s; our truck maker was going to be Rolls-Royce and would sell for about $250,000, but you couldn't buy it for any price unless you were "qualified" to own it. We'd go into detail about hand-rubbed finishes, inlaid teakwood beds, fitted platinum plated tools, and so forth. We thought it was hysterically funny then (beer will do that to you) and I still thought so (sober) when Lincoln came out with The Blackwood. smile.gif

Your redneck drinkin buddies have excellent taste! ;)

Some strange part of me still likes the Blackwood. Its damn near beautiful compared to the Cadillac equivalent, that's for sure. smile.gif

I agree with pro on this one. It is a pretty truck campared to the competition. If I had the $50,000 to buy one though, I would buy a mark viii and put the other $43,000 in mods on it. Then in about 10 years when the price of them starts to drop I will buy one then.

I for one liked the blackwood as a vehicle. But the high price and practicality worse than the 'gator turned me off. It was a typical Ford ploy to get more sales than cadillac but ha! it fell through. The Aviator is doing better but when it first debuted there was debate as to whether the "baby gator" was just an expensive Mountaineer which is an expensive Explorer. But they sell and are quite the machines inside and out. A winner in my books.

Well isn't the Aviator a fully loaded Explorer with a Navitgator grille? They're selling now because the prices are dropping. Around here they were only $7k to 8k cheaper than the Nav.Like the Blackwood, there needs to be a reason to spend a extra 30k for a name and grille.Look at the differance between a Taurus and a Continental.

Nah, the Aviator has a different dash, engine, suspension tuning, wheels, tailgate, seats, gauges, navigation, etc...hell, the whole interior is different. Its a lot like the Navigator inside.

The 32v Cobra motor is reason enough to say its completely different than an Explorer. And its worth the extra 8-10k over a loaded Explorer Limited. But I am sure they'll depreciate real quick and be great values in the used car market. smile.gif

I liked the Blackwood, I also like the new marauder and there stopping that aswell, I suppose when they are 10 years old and would have stood a chance of affording one they are going to be so rare I am still ain't gonna get one.

I'll assume you mean the latest gen. I see a hint of Taurus in them (built on same chassis, rear tailights) but drive both, sit in both and drive both and you'll see the LARGE differences between the two. For starters, there's the 32v Cobra Motor in the Lincoln vs. the 3.0 in the Taurus smile.gif .

Back to the thread. Like all Lincolns, the Aviator will depreciate big time making it great to buy used. Can't say the same for the Marauder though ;) .

Exactly. That's what I meant as the differance between the Taurus & Conti. You can understand the price/upgrade.Pro as you can tell I've never climb inside of an Aviator.Didn't know it had that many upgrades. redface.gif

The Navigator and Aviator are both perty cool trucks. The Blackwood was a joke though. I think if they had offered more options, like 4-wheel drive or powertrain upgrades, then promoted it, the truck may have made it.

Guess we'll see what Lincoln does with the Mark LT.

Check the pics from the NAIAS in Detroit. Blackwood replaced with a Mark LT. (Nav with a bed).
BTW, Ford is very happy with the Aviator - 26,000 units and no sales losses from Mountaineer or Nav.

That new Lincoln pickup is a horrible try at a new Blackwood. It looks way too much like an F150. They should have made it look like a Navigator again and shoved the supercharged 5.4L from the Harley Davidson edition into the thing. At least now they realize people want a pick up to haul stuff, not just tow.

Hate to say it, but I actually MISS the Blackwood now. From the Navigator front end to the unique rear end with stainless steel and neon lights, that thing was all Lincoln.

I really hope they won't call it the Mark LT, but I guess they will. :(

The Explorer and the Aviator do share the same platform.
The Aviator is much nicer but is several hundred pounds heavier too hence the need for the stronger engine, which results in a decrease of mpg(2-3).
The Blackwood was a nice truck.
I believe part of the problem lies in mktg/advertising and over-pricing. I don't recall seeing too many Blackwood commercials when it was released.
And then, when the MSRP turns out to be astronomical, people run away.
That's why we commonly see the $7k-$9k off MSRP sales from Lincoln. They're way over-priced.
Just like the latest T-Bird, they should have competitively priced the car from the get-go and prohibited dealers from price gouging in order to gain back the mkt they once had.
Yes, two-doors are no longer the choice of the masses but they would have made a much bigger dent into that arena if the conditions enticed buyers.
