Greetings all! I have a 2004 Navigator Ultimate with a build date of 10/2003. Does my unit have the prewire for the THX navigation system? If it does, what do I need to do in order to add the navigation system to my Navigator? I have seen blogs stating that the Ultimate has the prewire for the THX navigation system. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! --Clint--

Hello Clint,
Odds are you can get it all wired up, but it will require a LOT of additional wiring that will not be available from Ford separately. The dealer would be less than thrilled to do this for you. I bet they'll tell you to sell the truck and get another one with NAV.
This conversion has not been documented, but I have done similar conversions in the past to add Tripminder computers to 1980s Fords that never came with them. I also have an Aviator with Nav and judging by the differences, here are the parts you will need:
1) Dashboard wiring harness(some of it, hopefully not all of it)
2) Nav wiring harness from head unit to DVD player
3) DVD player and its mounting bracket
4) Nav wiring harness to antenna
5) Nav-specific rear RH vent window glass with integral antenna
6) Nav head unit
7) New steering wheel buttons with voice activation feature
8) Microphone for voice activation (don't know where that goes)
That is probably the only parts needed for this swap, but I cannot say for sure because I do not have a shop manual for the Aviator/Navigator.
Honestly, you are better off selling yours and getting another one. Or getting an aftermarket Nav system. Aftermarket units are more detailed and will be cheaper in both parts and labor. Keep in mind that the Lincoln Nav is a watered down version of the Kenwood system that any quality stereo vendor can sell you.
Good luck!

Ahhh that's right, thanks for the assist...that is the navigation mirror and it also has the auto-dim feature.
This is becoming a very expensive conversion. smile.gif

Here is what the dealer tells me. They can have an aftermarket NAV system installed, but it would render the rear entertainmet unit useless, so that's a no go for me. The list of parts is long enough to be very expensive. I'm not convinced that the dealer is totally correct. I have seen in many places on the web that the 2004 Navigator Ultimate was built with the NAV "pre wiring" installed. I'm going to try and get more information and I will keep you all posted. BTW, I have just seen the NAV head unit posted on Ebay. This is the new touch screen version that was in the 2004 Navigator. I'm sure it will sell for much less than the dealer would charge... smile.gif
Thanks again for all the input.
